CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: JOE SANDERS QUARTET: THE LIFE & MUSIC OF OSCAR PETTIFORD
The Joe Sanders Quartet. featuring Gerald Clayton & Greg Hutchinson presents The Life & Music of Oscar Pettiford at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595 ) on Thursday, September 26th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Young, in-demand bassist Joe Sanders will pay tribute to the life and music of bassist Oscar Pettiford. Pettiford was a crucial component of jazz, particularly bebop, having worked for and/or led groups with Coleman Hawkins, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Ben Webster, Cannonball Adderley, and more, all before his death in 1960 at the age of 37. Pettiford is also considered the pioneer of cello as a solo instrument in jazz. Joe Sanders' group features two highly renowned contemporaries, Gerald Clayton and Greg Hutchinson; Clayton, still in his twenties, has been personally GRAMMY Award-nominated both as a composer and a soloist, and Greg Hutchinson, who has worked with the best of the best living jazz musicians, has been called "the drummer of his generation" by JazzTimes. There is a $30 cover.
