CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: YOSVANY TERRY QUINTET AT DIZZY'S

CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: YOSVANY TERRY QUINTET AT DIZZY'S

The Yosvanny Terry Quintet (Yosvany Terry, saxophones & chekere; Mike Rodriguez, trumpet; Osmany Paredes, piano; Hans Glawischnig, bass; Jeff "Tain" Watts, drums) is returning to DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Tuesday & Wednesday, September 24th & 25th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm to play music from the acclaimed Today's Opinion. Blending a dense mix of influences from West Africa, Cuba, and American jazz, Terry has created an ambitious and unique vision, now recognized as one of the most important cross-cultural integrations in modern jazz. "In Cuba," said Terry, "everything that arrives integrates and becomes part of the culture. Jazz is the same way." The Quintet has been performing this material extensively, and Terry tells us that his celebrated group is now at its peak, playing better than ever. This is powerful music, amazingly cohesive given the number of musical ideas and influences Terry incorporates. The Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival showcases an array of up-and-coming musicians alongside some of today's most established jazz masters. There is a $30 cover.
