PALM SPRINGS: JASON GRAAE AT THE COPA
Jason Graae will perform at THE COPA (244 East Amado Road, Palm Springs CA - 760-866-0021) on Friday & Saturday, October 24th & 25th at 8:00 pm. Graae has starred on Broadway in "A Grand Night For Singing", "Falsettos", "Stardust", "Snoopy!", "Do Black Patent Leather Shows Really Reflect Up?". Off-Broadway shows include "Forever Plaid", "Olympus on My Mind", "All in the Timing", "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (Drama Desk Nomination - Best Actor in a Musical)" and many more. Jason has performed his one man show all over the country from Rainbow and Stars and Birdland in NYC to Feinstein's and the Plush Room in L.A. and San Francisco, winning 4 Bistro Awards and a N.Y Nightlife Award, also making TimeOut NY's Top Cabaret shows of the year. His current critically acclaimed show with Faith Prince, "The Prince and the Showboy" was recently seen at 54 Below and the pair won a 2nd Nightlife Award for Best Duo. The line-up has been announced for CABARET IS ALIVE AND WELL IN LOS ANGELES, an Actors Fund benefit presented by Fraser entertainment Group and conceived and directed by David Galligan. Taking place in 4 clubs over 4 nights, advance ticket purchase is required for all shows. On Friday, October 24th at 8:30 pm the opening night takes place at CATALINA JAZZ CLUB (6725 West Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, CA - 323-466-2210) with Obba Babatunde, George Ball, Michele Brourman, Loretta Devine, Davis Gaines, Julie Garnye, Damon Kirsche, Amanda McBroom, Sharon McNight, Valerie Perri & Christina Saffran. LOS ANGELES: GARY BRUMBURGH IN "THE KID FROM EUCLID AVENUE"
Gary Brumburgh brings his show "The Kid from Euclid Avenue" to THE GARDENIA(7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Friday, October 24th at 9:00 pm. In his show he retraces his musical roots and gives a fresh jazz spin to tunes by The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, The Fifth Dimension, and more, with support from musical director and "driving force," Dave Ferris. At one time an elementary and special education teacher, Mr. Brumburgh moved from Upstate New York to Los Angeles to pursue what became a two-decade career in TV, film, and the stage, landing musical leads in stock and repertory productions of South Pacific (starring John Raitt,) City of Angels, Company, The Fantasticks, Cabaret, Kiss Me Kate, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Of Thee I Sing, and many more. In addition, he provided backup vocals for several artists, including a Las Vegas stint with Steve Lawrence and the late Eydie Gorme, and debuted his first CD, Up Jumped Spring, in 2007. Meg Mackay & Billy Philadelphia will appear at SOCIETY CABARET AT THE HOTEL REX (562 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94102 - 800-982-2787) on Friday & Saturday, October 24th & 25th at 8:00 pm. Celebrated by audiences and critics alike, vocalist and musical theatre performer, Meg Mackay, is a popular and distinguished member of the San Francisco Bay Area performing arts scene. Meg MackayMackay has been a frequent performer in Bay Area cabarets and theaters for over fifteen years. A sophisticated actress with a distinctive voice, Meg has received an amazing eight Drama-Logue/Dean Goodman awards and seven Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle awards. Billy Philadelphia is one of those rare performers who is equally at home on stage or behind the scenes. He has been Musical Director for several Bay Area television shows including a year and a half on KRON-TV's SFO with Steve Jamison (for which Billy wrote and recorded the theme song), over 60 appearances on KGO-TV's AM San Francisco, and numerous shows with Bill Raferty on Good Time Cafe, last seen nationwide on A&E. SAN FRANCISCO: SHAWN MULLINS AT YOSHI'S
GRAMMY nominated singer /songwriter Shawn Mullins performs at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Friday, October 24th at 8:00 pm. Since we last heard from Shawn Mullins on 2008's honeydew, the Atlanta-based singer/songwriter and bandleader has undergone a series of transformative experiences, leading to a second coming for the veteran artist. Evidence of Mullins' newfound level of musical and lyrical ambition courses comes through with Light You Up (Vanguard Records, Oct. 12). This captivating new song cycle will likely be viewed as a flat-out revelation even by Mullins' most fervent fans. There is a $32 cover.
