NYC: JAMES SNYDER IN "FATE, REASONS AND OTHER FRIENDS"

The Broadway at Birdland concert series presents If/Then leading man James Snyder performing his one-man show, Fate, Reasons and Other Friends on the historic stage at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, September 29th at 7:00 pm. In Fate, Reasons and Other Friends, James shares his victories, defeats and a few things inbetween. From his time on Broadway as the title role in the ill-fated Cry-Baby, and as a solo recording artist with Lionsgate Records ... from Carousel to Bare, from Fanny to Elvis, he will take his audience through the soundtrack of his career. After a busy career on TV, James Snyder made his Broadway debut in Cry-Baby, appeared in Rock of Ages in Los Angeles and played Billy Bigelow in Carousel at Goodspeed Opera House. This past season, he returned to Broadway opposite Idina Menzel in If/Then. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JAMIE CULLUM INTERLUDE ... THE JAZZ TOUR AT THE BLUE NOTE

THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) presents Award winning broadcaster song-writer and musician Jamie Cullum for a special one-night performance on Monday, September 29th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Billed as "Jamie Cullum Interlude ...The Jazz Tour," the evening will celebrate his new relationship with Blue Note Records, as the legendary label just announced that it will serve as the new U.S. home for the British jazz star. The pair of intimate shows will provide a special sneak preview to Cullum's upcoming album, INTERLUDE. He will play the album in its entirety with his core band augmented by choice local players so not only will the audience see him in much smaller space than usual, but with a much bigger band to boot! INTERLUDE marks a rare focus upon largely straight-ahead jazz and a return to interpretation from an artist who has made a habit of bending genres, writing original material and bringing new sounds and new listeners to the music. Inspired by the music and musicians he's featured on his award-winning UK jazz radio show over the last few years and his own crate digging tendencies, the album's twelve tracks avoid cliche with a fistful of less obvious songs from the American songbook along with a couple modern surprises and pair of amazing duet guests in Gregory Porter and Laura Mvula. There is a $50 cover.

NYC: MONDAY NIGHTS WITH WBGO: BOB STEWART'S DOUBLE QUARTET

Tuba mastermind Bob Stewart and his Double Quartet perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, September 29th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Stewart has made a name for himself in numerous eclectic settings, from the blues of Taj Mahal, to Charles Mingus' demanding compositions, and the free explorations of Arthur Blythe. On his new recording, Connections – Mind The Gap, Stewart bridges original arrangements of his peers' compositions with movements from a special chamber piece commissioned for the renowned PUBLIQuartet string ensemble. This one-of-a-kind double-quartet performance features both PUBLIQuartet and his own ensemble of 25 years, which includes well-known jazz players like Jerome Harris and Matt Wilson. This project will be a unique musical statement within the world of jazz. Live webcast and artist interview with WBGO host Rhonda Hamilton will begin at 7:15pm EST on jazz.org/live. There is a $30 cover.
