PALM SPRINGS, CA: JEN KIRKMAN AT THE COPA
Jen Kirkman will perform atTHE COPA (244 East Amado Road, Palm Springs CA - 760-866-0021 - ) on Saturday, June 28th at 8:00 pm. Jan is a stand-up comedian and the author of the book, "I Can Barely Take Care of Myself," which became an instant New York Times Bestseller when it was released in April 2013. Jen is currently a writer and regular round table guest on Chelsea Lately. She also was one of the stars of the hit-spin-off 'mockumentary' show After Lately. Jen is also well known for her role as the narrator in a few episodes of the cult-hit series "Drunk History" which aired on Comedy Central and HBO. Jen has appeared on: The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, @Midnight, Conan, John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show, The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, and the Cartoon Network's Home Movies. LOS ANGELES: MARCOVICCI CELEBRATES 29TH ANNIVERSARY AT THE GARDENIA
Andrea Marcovicci celebrates her 29th Anniversary at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Friday & Saturday, June 27th & 28th at 9:00 pm. Her new show "Let's Get Lost" pays homage to her favorites: Audrey Hepburn (Two for the Road), Fred Astaire (I Won't Dance / Fine Romance), and, of course, torch songs! (Smoke Gets in Your Eyes / Say It Isn't So). She will also pay tribute to the extraordinary arrangements of longtime musical partner, Shelly Markham. (Black Magic, Bill). In addition, Andrea debuts "never before sung in public" numbers, including a 1930's Astaire gem, and a comic Broadway turn. OAKLAND, CA: BIRD'S NEST HOLDS ANNUAL POT LUCK BAR-B-Q AND JAM!!
Cathi Walkup's BIRD'S NEST JAZZ at WATERPARK LOFTS (2875 Glascock Street #109, Oakland, CA - 510-534-6163 - ) will hold it's Annual Pot Luck Bar-B-Q and jazz jam in the courtyard on Saturday, June 28th starting around 1:00 pm. Attendees are asked to bring something to share and/or throw on the grill and come cellibrate the summer! Esteemed grillmeister, Jon Zaks will be firing up the grill around 1pm, but you can come early if you want to help set up. Mark Zannini will be providing some nice acoustic guitar music in the courtyard and those who want to jam or just hang can move inside around 4:00 or 5:00 pm - musicians bring your instruments! There will be a piano & sound system.
SAN FRANCISCO: LEA DELARIA MAKES HER FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO DEBUT
Multi-talented, Lea DeLaria makes herFEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063 - ) debut on Saturday June 28th at 7:00 pm for one show only. DeLaria has recorded four Jazz albums (Play It Cool, Double Standards, The Very Best of Lea Delaria and The Live Smoke Sessions) and "House of David: delaria+bowie = jazz" is about to be released. Lea started as a standup comedian and became the first openly gay comic to break the late night talk show barrier with her 1993 appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show and subsequently hosted Comedy Central's Out There, the first all gay standup comedy special. She has recorded two comedy albums (Bulldyke in a China Shop and Box Lunch) and authored the humorous Lea's Book of Rules for the World which is in its third printing at Bantam, Doubleday and Dell. DeLaria was seen off Broadway in Paul Rudnick's The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told and on Broadway in the revival of On the Town and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. On screen she was in Edge of Seventeen and The First Wives Club, maintained a recurring role on One Life to Live as well as both Season 1 and the upcoming Season 2 of the Netflix original Series Orange is the New Black. SAN FRANCISCO: RICKIE LEE JONES AT YOSHI'S
Two-time GRAMMY winner Rickie Lee Jones will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Friday & Saturday, June 27th & 28th at 8:00 pm. Jones exploded onto the pop scene in 1978 and has made a career of fearlessly experimenting with her sound and persona. A cultural phenomenon, Rolling Stone magazine put her on its cover twice in two years, and Saturday Night Live gave her an unprecedented three songs for her second appearance. Rickie is both a character in the songs and the songwriter singing, defying convention with her sometimes brazen sexuality and the mixed bag of jazz, rock and what has come to be known as 'confessional' songwriter performances. Her second album Pirates is one of the seminal, most heralded recordings of pop music, with each song a cinematic journey through her breakdown and rise. Jones' live performances have reached a pinnacle of honesty and excellence. Her latest album The Devil You Know is produced by Ben Harper and reimagines the music of Jagger / Richards, Neil Young and more, and is planning to release an album of new music in 2014. SAN FRANCISCO: MUSICAL DUO CRSB AT YOSHI'S
CRSB,a musical duo based out of the San Francisco Bay Area, will perform at YOSHI'S(1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600 - ) on Saturday, June 28th at 10:30 pm. CRSB create their own brand of Island Soul-infused Pop. Consisting of members Chris Ramos and Sonny B., CRSB combines honest and memorable songwriting with a heart right out of the islands. The group garnered mass attention from the public after they began to release live home videos performing their original compositions. Posted from the personal YouTube account of Ramos, the collection of videos has amassed over three and a half million plays. The group self-released the LP "Eclectivity" in 2009 in response to the demand of their rapidly expanding fan base. Since than CRSB has accomplished to get 3 #1 Songs and 5 Top 5 Hits on the Hawaiian Radio Waves. CRSB has maintained a consistent performance schedule while also releasing 2 Ground-breaking Projects the "LoveGun EP" and their Self Titled LP "CRSB".
