PALM SPRINGS, CA: CHRISTINE DEAVER COMES TO JOSLYN CENTER
Singer/actor Christine Deaver brings a new one-woman musical cabaret-style concert entitled "Showgirl" to THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731) on Sunday, June 22nd at 2:00 pm. "Showgirl" is a zany mix of music from several genres with a splash of audience participation and improvisation. Joining her, as her musical director and pianist, will be David Duvall. Christine and David first met in Seattle when she was one of the stars of the popular performance art theatrical extravaganza "Teatro ZinZanni". She later joined the shows San Francisco cast playing to packed houses for a ten-year run. The show was a three-hour performance that was a blend of circus, comedy, music, and cabaret, served up with a five coarse dinner with high demand tickets sold months in advance. Christine is currently living and working in Los Angeles and may be seen co-starring on prime time television shows, and even more often as the voiceover artist for commercials and a variety of cartoon characters. There is an $11 cover, cash only, at the door.
LOS ANGELES: 'S WONDERFUL! SANDY SINGS IRA GERSHWIN
Singer/ actor Sandy Bainum returns to STERLING'S AT THE FEDERAL (5303 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA - 818-754-8700) on Sunday, June 22nd at 7:00 pm with 'S Wonderful! Sandy Sings Ira Gershwin. The show will feature classic tunes including: "The Man That Got Away," "By Strauss," "I've Got Rhythm," "Fascinatin' Rhythm," "How Long Has This Been Going On," and, of course, "'S Wonderful." Sandy will be joined on stage by a top-notch band led by her award-winning musical director Lanny Meyers. There is no cover, just a $10 food/drink minimum.
SAN FRANCISCO: JUSTIN VIVIAN BOND WITH LOVE IS CRAZY! AT FEINSTEIN'S
After sold-out performances in New York and Paris, FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) presents cabaret legend and "trans-genre" artist Justin Vivian Bond with "Love is Crazy" on Saturday & Sunday, June 21st & 22nd at 7:00 pm. "Love is Crazy" is an evening to celebrate love and all its complications. Under the musical direction of Lance Horne, audiences can expect the unexpected with a mix of original songs from Mx Bond's records "Dendrophile" and "Silver Wells," along with songs associated with v's stage and film appearances, including John Cameron Mitchell's "Shortbus" and the recent off-Broadway hit Bertolt Brecht's A Man's A Man.
