NYC: BROADWAY SINGS AT THE WEST END - THURSDAYS
A New Open mic night has begun hosted by Sarah Rice & Craig Pomranz on the Upper West Side! BROADWAY SINGS AT THE WEST END will be held every Thursday night (it started on May 1st) at THE WEST END (955 West End Avenue, NYC - 212-531-4759) from 9:00 to 11:00 pm (signup after 8:30 pm). Matthew Martin Ward will be at the piano. An open mic with multi-award winning hosts Sarah and Craig bring the ultimate New York experience to the Upper West Side with all kinds of talent singing all genres of music -Broadway, Pop, Jazz, Classical, all are welcomed. There will be a drawing at the end of the evening to get to sing another song and get a free cover for the following week. There will also be a group sing of the Tonight Quintette from West Side Story. There is a $7 cover - no minimum.
NYC: UPTOWN EXPRESS: GET LUCKY
Uptown Express, the seven-time MAC award nominated male vocal group, will present a brand new show, 'Get Lucky' at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Thursday, June 26th at 7:00 pm. Featuring: James Followell, Dan Gross, Sean Conly, Christopher Caswell, Larry Gabbard, Chad Hudson, Brad Parks, and Doug Williford, the show promises the music you've been waiting to hear: The Temptations in the same show as Daft Punk; Hunter Hayes next to Rosemary Clooney; Pharrell Williams and Peggy Lee... and more. With Jody Shelton on piano - and vocals - and nerdy trivia, you will hear all your favorites, from Judy's earliest hits to her Carnegie Hall classics plus the ever-popular IMPROV SONG: setting your most exciting Judy memory to music! NYC: SARI SCHORR AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Sari Schorr and her trio will perform at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday, June 26th at 7:00 pm. Emotions will run deep as Sari Schorr and her all-star trio skillfully lure listeners into their embrace. Sari's voice is distinctive and powerful and at times achingly beautiful. She draws from her roots in jazz and blues and sings with an assertive voice that burns with passion across a richly toned 5-octave range. As a songwriter, Sari delivers her fusion of jazz and blues into a contemporary light as she manages to synthesize the struggles and triumphs of our daily lives into a compelling commentary. The quartet will debut a selection of songs from her upcoming album interwoven with some well-chosen classics. She is joined by singer/songwriter Michael Whalen, Pete Levin on piano and Wilbur Bascomb on Bass. Whalen is a two-time Emmy award-winning television & film composer. In a diverse music career spanning several decades, keyboardist/arranger/composer Pete Levin has performed and recorded with hundreds of Jazz and Pop artists. Wilbur Bascomb is an American bassist who has played on numerous jazz and funk recordings. He has recorded with Galt McDermot, Jeff Beck, James Brown, and B.B. King. This month, Stephanie Umoh joins Mamma as the newest Queen, singing a soulful rendition of "It's Raining Men" and a few of her own favorite tunes. Music Direction by Cap21's Marshall Keating. Brooklyn based cabaret artist Xavier "Mamma" Rice has made his mark with the successful late night cabaret series, Mamma Rice N' Friends, at Public Assembly in Williamsburg, where it ran for two consecutive years as BK's #1 musical theatre cabaret night. NYC: ALEXA RAY JOEL AT THE CAFE CARLYLE
Singer, songwriter and pianist Alexa Ray Joel will perform atTHE CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-744-1600) on Tuesday through Saturday, June 24th through 28th at 8:45 pm. Alexa is the daughter and only child of singer-songwriter Billy Joel and first child of model Christie Brinkley. Joel released an EP Sketches (2006) and several singles on independent record labels.
