NYC: JAZZ LEGEND ANNIE ROSS TUESDAYS THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: SETH BISEN-HERSH'S 300TH SHOWCASE EXTRAVAGANZA
As of this May, Seth Bisen-Hersh will have produced, emceed and accompanied 300 showcases. To celebrate he is putting on the 300th Showcase Extravaganza at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) consisting of six concerts of his work with 84 showcase alumni. Show are scheduled for Tuesdays, May 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th; Friday, May 9th; and Thursday, May 22nd, all shows at 7:00 pm. Each evening will contain 20 songs from his musicals and cabarets over the years. There is a $12 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: KYLE MOTSINGER: FACES AT THE DUPLEX
How do you find the balance between who you are and who you want people to see? Kyle Motsinger, making his solo debut, searches for the answer in an evening of pop, rock, jazz, and musical theatre at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Tuesday, May 6th at 7:00 pm. The show is directed by Colleen Harris with Musical Direction by Joshua Stephen Kartes. There is a $10 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: MARILYN MAYE REMEMBERS THE CARSON YEARS
The multi-talented Marilyn Maye appeared on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show a record 76 times, more than any singer. Her newest show at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) presented on Tuesday & Wednesday, May 6th & 7th at 7:00 pm and Friday & Saturday, May 9th and 10th at 8:00 pm - plus an encore performance on Tuesday, May 13th at 7:00 pm will be both a musical salute and a compilation of many of the songs Marilyn performed on The Tonight Show. There is a $40-$65 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
NYC: CORINNA SOWERS-ADLER IN "BY REQUEST - NEW YORK MOMENTS"
Corinna Sowers-Adler will perform at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) in "By Request - New York Moments" on Tuesday, May 6th at 9:30 pm. In her 54 BELOW debut, Corinna continues the "By Request" series with a very special show including songs and the memories and special moments behind why that song has been inspirational or life changing, all containing the theme of New York City. Corinna takes your requests and stories and creates a unique and heart warming show. Corinna will be joined on stage by Musical Director, Markus Hauck with Colleen Clark on Drums and Christian Fabian on Bass. Corinna Sowers-Adler is the latest voice of the American Songbook and was nominated for Best Female Vocalist in the 2012 BroadwayWorld Awards. She has booked and performed her solo shows to rave reviews at The Metropolitan Room, Stage 72 at the Triad, the Duplex, Feinstein's at Loews Regency and is the host of the critically-acclaimed, MAC Award-nominated "Music at the Mansion" series. NYC: ELAYNE BOOSLER AT STAGE 72 - COMEDY WITH A CAUSE!
Comic Elayne Boosler will make two rare NYC Performances at STAGE 72(158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590) on Tuesday, May 6th at 7:00 pm in COMEDY WITH A CAUSE! Comedian Elayne Boosler, always at the forefront of standup comedy, is simply at the top of her game in her fortieth year of performing. Coming back to New York, where it all started for her and her incredible group of peers in the early '70s, she is the one true keeper of the hilarious stories of those days. All featured in her upcoming book, "Big Fun", they are the funniest of adventures, featuring Andy Kaufman, Richard Belzer, Freddie Prinze, Jay Leno, Richard Lewis, Larry David, Richard Pryor, Lily Tomlin, Rodney Dangerfield, and so many more. Her show is of course the best of up to the minute, smart, political, thoughtful and hilarious standup comedy, but she does sprinkle in some of the funniest stories never before told. NYC cabaret favorite Steve Tyrell will perform at THE CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-744-1600) on Tuesdays through Saturdays, May 6th through 17th at 8:45 pm, with an added late show on Saturdays at 10:45 pm. (No show on Friday, May 9th). The Grammy Award-winning vocalist is truly a renaissance man. In his almost 5 decades in the music business, he has achieved great success as an artist, producer, songwriter, music supervisor, and performer. His hits "The Way You Look Tonight," "The Simple Life," "Crush On You" and "The Sunny Side of The Street," have launched thousands of weddings and millions of romances. He's held top positions at Standards, Swing, and Big Band outlets with a devoted following at key Adult Contemporary Radio. He has appeared with The Boston Pops, twice with The New York Pops, The Nashville Symphony, and The Houston Symphony on several occasions. In 2005, after the passing of the legendary Bobby Short, Steve was asked by New York City's Cafe Carlyle to take over their revered Holiday Season of November and December, which Mr. Short had not missed in 36 years.
