BOSTON: BABY BOY ROBINSON - CD RELEASE - THE MIC IS ON

Baby Boy Robinson will celebrate the release of his new CD 'The Mike is On" at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Tuesday, May 6th at 8:00 pm. Robinson gives his audiences an awesome and new take on an old style of great music. With a heavy soul voice, Baby Boy Robinson's smooth vocals deliver R&B at it's finest. Recently, he became a featured singer on the Classic Soul Tour at the Strand Theater in Boston, alongside legends such as BlueMagic, Ray Goodman & Brown and Heatwave. 'Baby Boy' is no gimmick. At birth his parents simply did not sign a name on the birth certificate and on it to date is the name, Baby Boy Robinson. He is founder of both Jesus Power Ministries and the No More Murder campaign. These are both service providers connecting to and providing for what is considered to be the gang population. The first of its kind that help catapult what was known as the Boston miracle - a period where crime and murder dipped at an all-time low. TORONTO: THE JAZZ DESCENDANTS: "RED" CD RELEASE

Juno-winner, bassist and composer, Brandi Disterheft has joined forces with long-time collaborator, pianist and composer, Joshua Goodman as The Jazz Descendants to create the album 'RED" which draws from a mix of traditional jazz sources. The CD will be release at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday, May 6th at 8:00 pm. On the CD "Tranquility", the first part of a ballad-medley by Joshua, is a homage to Barry and Thelonious Monk. While Brandi's "Prayer to Release the Troops" is a powerful, stirring composition evocative of McCoy Tyner, Charles Mingus and Ron Carter. On the album RED, legendary drummer, Leroy Williams, who has toured and recorded with Grammy-winning pianist Barry Harris for decades, completes the trio and contributes a playful Latin Jazz composition, "Rosita". For the CD Release Party, however, Toronto-based drummer, Morgan Childs, two-time winner of Grand Prix du Jazz of the Montreal Jazz Festival, completes the trio. There is a $15 cover.

WASHINGTON, DC: MARS 4-TET "CD RELEASE PARTY" AT BLUES ALLEY

The MARS 4-Tet will perform at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Tuesday, May 6th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. They are proud to be releasing their freshman CD The Blind Watchmaker on Summit Records on April 8, 2014. Comprised of musicians with years of clubs, festivals and feature concerts behind them, their collective resume reads like a who's who of east coast musicians and recordings. Donvonte McCoy has been appointed as Artist in Residence, and will appear Tuesdays in May atBOHEMIAN CAVERNS(2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800). Donvonte McCoy is one of today's finest Jazz trumpeter's. His band was named best Jazz Quintet of 2013 by the Washington DC City Paper. His debut CD was rated in the top five of 2011 by the prestigous Capitol Bop website. Donvonte spends most of his time leading his ensemble at DC's world renowned Eighteenth Street Lounge. It is at the lounge that Donvonte exposes many new ears to Jazz music. Call for cover/minimum information.

The Tommy Igoe Big Band celebrates Ray Charles Night on Tuesday, May 6th at 8:00 pm at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600). The show features singer Tony Lindsay. Drumming icon, Tommy Igoe and his band are putting a fresh, global spin on a proud American art form.
