NYC: ANNE TOFFLEMIRE IN "THIS FUNNY WORLD"
After her November sold-out debut concert at BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080), singer Anne Tofflemire will return to the historic stage in her show This Funny World on Monday, February 17th at 7:00 pm. This Funny World is an evening of popular songs from Rodgers & Hart, Stephen Sondheim, Joni Mitchell, Irving Berlin, Charles Strouse & Lee Adams. Accompanist/music director for the evening will be Ross Patterson. Anne Tofflemire was raised in Northern California, where she starred in the long running San Francisco productions of Side by Side by Sondheim and Rap Master Ronnie. She was discovered by theAcademy Award-winning lyricist Sammy Cahn, with whom she toured nationally and internationally in Sammy Cahn: Words and Music. Her other theatre credits include Peter Pan opposite Cathy Rigby, Maria in West Side Story, A LittleNight Music, and understudying, as well as going on for Donna McKechnie a sMama Rose in Gypsy. Her cabaret appearances include Town Hall, Firebird Cafe, Delmonico's, and Eighty-Eights in Manhattan, the Plush Room in San Francisco, and the Gardenia in Los Angeles. Her CD, "Let's Face the Music," was released by Harbinger Records. There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT
Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
NYC: MINO CINELU WORLD JAZZ ENSEMBLE AT THE BLUE NOTE
Mino Cinelu World Jazz Ensemble featuring Mino Cinelu, drums, percussion, vocals, guitar; Jamshied Sharifi, keys, vocal, percussion; Mamadou Ba, bass; and Jose Davila, tuba & percussion, will perform atTHE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, February 17th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. They will be joined by Bria Skonberg (voice, trumpet, flugelhorn). Mino Cinelu began his musical journey as a child by learning to play the guitar. He went on to develop an affinity and passion for the drum set along with various types of percussive instruments during his early years of musical maturation. By the time he had turned sixteen, Cinelu was a professional musician traveling between London and New York for gigs and recording sessions. During his travels, he collaborated with a vast number of musicians whose differing musical inclinations, be they in jazz, funk, rap, electro, flamenco, and pop, were as varied as the prestige of each artist (Miles Davis, Sting, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, Lou Reed, Vicente Amigo, Stevie Wonder, etc.). Years beyond his humble beginnings, the renowned composer, multi-instrumentalist, programmer, and producer, Mino Cinelu, is still exploring his innate passion for music and leaving behind his unmistakable impression. There is a $10-$20 cover.
NYC: LES PAUL MONDAY'S FEATURING STANLEY "BUCKWHEAT" DURAL
Les Paul Monday's, featuring Stanley "Buckwheat" Dural (leader of Buckwheat Zydeco) on Hammond B-3 with The Les Paul Trio, will perform at THE IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB (1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121) on Monday, February 17th with shows at 8:30 & 10:30 pm. Buckwheat Zydeco has performed with a large number of famous musicians from Eric Clapton (with whom Buckwheat also recorded) and U2 to The Boston Pops. The band performed at the closing ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympics to a worldwide audience of three billion people. Buckwheat performed for President Clinton twice, celebrating both of his inaugurations. The band has appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, CNN, The Today Show, MTV, NBC News, CBS Morning News, National Public Radio's Weekend Edition. There is a $35 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
