NY STATE: PIANO BAR WITH BOBBY BELFRY AT THE BEAR MOUNTAIN INN
Each Thursday night beginning at 8:00 pm, THE BLUE ROOF TAPAS BAR at THE BEAR MOUNTAIN INN(55 Hessian Drive, Bear Mountain, NY - 845-786-2731) will host a rollicking night of great music from Sinatra to GaGa and just about every musical genre in between on Thursdays, with award winning recording artist and songwriter Bobby Belfry as singer & host and the brilliant all-around musician and singer David Budway at the piano, as well as the magnificent Sarah Mucho on vocals (this lady can croon and rock then tear it all up and start over again! If you don't know what that means-there's only one way to find out!) The mic is OPEN! So if you sing, bring sheet music and sing a tune. AND if you don't sing, sing along anyway! BOSTON: DAVE LIEBMAN GROUP WITH LYDIA LIEBMAN
The Dave Liebman Group with Lydia Liebman will be performing the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim atSCULLERS JAZZ CLUB(400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Thursday, February 20th at 8:00 pm. Liebman's career has spanned over four decades, beginning in the 1970s as the saxophone/flautist in both the Elvin Jones and Miles Davis Groups, continuing as a leader since. He has played on nearly three hundred recordings with over one hundred under his leadership or co-leadership. In jazz education he is a renowned lecturer and author of several milestone books: Self Portrait Of A Jazz Artist, A Chromatic Approach To Jazz Harmony And Melody, Developing A Personal Saxophone Sound, translated into several languages, in addition to teaching DVDs, journalistic contributions to periodicals and published chamber music. BOSTON: NICOLE HENRY AT THE REGATTABAR
Nicole Henry will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Thursday, February 20th at 7:30 pm. She is joined by Kevin Hays, Piano; Robert Jost, Bass; McClenty Hunter, Drums; and Bobby LaVell, Saxophone. Nicole has firmly established herself as one of the most acclaimed entertainers in jazz. Her powerfully expressive voice and her soulful, sophisticated and uplifting energy has earned her three top 10 albums. Adding to her vocal talents, Nicole's beauty and on-stage rapport combines confidence and sincerity, confirming her as an all-around beguiling performer to audiences in over 15 countries. Henry showcases her diversity and skills as a performer and refined interpreter on her January CD release, So Good, So Right: Nicole Henry Live. The 13-track live album, which was recorded at Henry's sold-out performances at Feinstein's in NYC in May 2012, showcases her soulful, inspired interpretations of some of her favorite classic hits of the 70's from iconic artists including Bill Withers, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, The Commodores and Gladys Knight.
TORONTO: VITO REZZA AND "5 AFTER 4"
Vito Rezza And "5 After 4" perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, February 20th through 22nd at 9:00 pm. Toronto-based Rezza is known as a drummer's drummer, the kind of player who awes his peers. There is far more to Vito Rezza than superb stickhandling skills, however. He is also a bandleader and composer with a string of highly-acclaimed albums under his belt. For the past 22 years, Rezza has led Canadian ensemble 5 After 4, and the band has opened for the likes of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Spyro Gyra, Kevin Eubanks, Boss Brass, and Joe Henderson. 5 After 4 released their sixth record, Rome In A Day, last year, on the ALMA Records label. The eleven-track disc featured six Rezza original compositions, and it confirmed he's at the peak of his powers in all his different roles. Rounding out the ensemble: keyboardist Matt Horner, an accomplished and creative musician whose career spans four decades; Juno-nominated bassist Pat Kilbride, who has appeared on over 200 recordings; and the highly in-demand saxophonist John Johnson, who has worked with everyone from Aretha Franklin to Diana Krall. There is a $15 cover.
