NYC: JAZZ LEGEND ANNIE ROSS TUESDAYS THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: JOAN RIVERS: LIVE IN TIMES SQUARE!
Comedy legend Joan Rivers returns with her her live stand-up act to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Friday, February 7th at 8:00 pm and Tuesday, February 11th at 7:30 pm. Rivers presents an evening of her newest and most outrageous riffs on Hollywood, pop culture, celebrities, reality TV and award show fashions. Rivers delivers a raunchy, politically incorrect evening of stand-up comedy. A full dinner menu and bar are available, and pianist Will Hall plays from the time doors open until Joan takes the stage. NYC: THE YOUNG PRESIDENTS RECORD RELEASE PARTY
The Young Presidents perform at CUTTING ROOM (44 East 32nd Street, NYC - 212-691-1900) on Tuesday, February 11th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. They will be celebrating the release of their 'Coalition' CD (produced by Grammy winner Rob Fraboni of The Band, Eric Clapton & Rolling Stones fame and featuring guest artists Ivan Neville, Anton Fig, Blondie Chaplin, Corey Glover and more.) Featured are Mitch Kaneff & Jake Hertzog with Guests Blondie Chaplin, Adam Ezra, Rasul A-Salaam, Lee Finkelstein, Blues Brothers' Rusty Cloud & More. They met on the border of Florida and Connecticut, graduated from the Boston Conservatory together and went on to complete the prestigious BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writers Workshop. Following development of their work Cookies, the sordid story of an underground Girl Scout cookie Ponzi scheme, Shapiro & Christen are thrilled to be making their New York City debut at 54 Below. Joined by a host of their favourite Broadway performers singing their latest works from Cookies, It's a Wonderful World of Warcraft and many more. Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks is an eleven-piece band playing music of the 1920s & 30s for your dining and dancing pleasure. In 1976 Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks (originally known as the New Orleans Nighthawks) was formed. A big-band historian and collector, Giordano has more than 60,000 scores in his collection.
