BOSTON: DAVID NEVES CD RELEASE PARTY: "PROGRESS REPORT"

David Neves will hold a CD Release Party for his new recording "Progress Report" at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB(400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Tuesday, February 11th at 8:00 pm. At 24 years old, David Neves is one of the most active and exciting trumpet players in Boston's jazz scene. During his time at the Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory, Neves has studied and performed with some of the most sought-after musicians in jazz, including Jason Moran, Miguel Zen•n, Dave Holland, Joe Lovano, and Ralph Alessi. David has performed throughout the United States as well as internationally, and in 2010 traveled to Sydney, Australia, where he was the winner of the International Trumpet Guild's Jazz Solo Competition. 2014 will mark the release of Neves' debut album Progress Report, which features an eclectic mix of all-original music performed by some of the finest young musicians in Boston and New York. TORONTO: FERN LINDZON AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

JUNO Award nominee Fern Lindzon will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday, February 11th at 7:00 pm. From Jobim to Norma Winstone, with stop-overs in Brazil, Eastern Europe and on Basin Street, Fern's highly original arrangements fly gracefully on the winds of contemporary jazz. Fern Lindzon, is joined by saxophonist Chris Gale, bassist George Koller and drummer Nick Fraser. There is a $15 cover.

D.C.: ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: JS WILLIAMS QUARTET

The JS Williams Quartet will perform as Artists in Residence at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) every Tuesday in February with performances at 7:00 & 8:30 pm. Jazz trumpeter, composer, and singer/songwriter JS Williams' music blends funk and soul with jazz to create a vibrant sound that resonates. His debut independent recording, "The Late BLUEmer," shines with thought-provoking melodies, rich harmonies, and a stellar cast of musicians. Although he credits jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown as his inspiration to play, his musical influences range from Beethoven to John Coltrane to The Roots. Since receiving his Master's Degree at Queens College under the acclaimed trumpeter/arranger Michael Philip Mossman, Williams has performed with the New Ray Charles, Duke Ellington, and Bohemian Caverns Jazz orchestras. He has shared the stage with a vast array of artists including Bobby Short, Gregory Porter, Eric Roberson, and Chuchito Valdes. Currently a doctoral candidate at Five Towns College, JS Williams continues to study, educate, and perform music around the country. There is a $10 cover.

D.C.: DANILO PEREZ: PANAMA 500 "CD RELEASE PARTY"

Danilo Perez will present a Panama 500 "CD Release Party" at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Tuesday & Wednesday, February 11th & 12th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. On the 500th anniversary of Vasco Nunez de Balboa's discovery of the Pacific, Danilo Perez and his band will play a night of music inspired by the world's largest ocean. The piece combines traditional folkloric, jazz and classical elements with creative improvisation. Perez, who first came to international attention as a member of Dizzy Gillespie's band, has been an acclaimed bandleader for two decades, fusing his Central American musical upbringing with the influences of Gillespie, Thelonious Monk and other jazz masters. Call for cover/minimum information.
