MATINEE CABARET TODAY NYC: FAMILY MUSICAL COMEDY AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
HUMPTY DUMPTY CRACKS UP: The Nightmare of Cabaret will be presented on Saturday & Sunday, August 24th & 25th at 2:30 pm atTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). The show is a "mixed-Up musical comedy play for (and starring) fun people of all ages. What happens when a Mom gets obsessed with putting together a cabaret act and the Great American Songbook and doesn't have much time for the Great American Storybook her kids love? Well, it falls to her teen-aged son to babysit the little ones and read them nursery rhymes and ...Wait a minute! Why is this oldest son named Humpty Dumpty? And why is Mom using nursery rhyme characters in her grown-up cabaret show? And is it a bad dream when those characters seem to appear and burst into song? Is that the old woman who lived in a shoe shooing them all away? And how did they all get to the cabaret awards? This is a somewhat wacky, somewhat sweet, somewhat sarcastic story that comes with a two-wink minimum. The show has lots of songs and some NYC cabaret performers you've seen around - simply playing cabaret performers or maybe Simple Simon. Kids, teens, and adults make up the cast and crew. Half the proceeds benefit The Cabaret Foundation and Cabaret Scenes Magazine and children's charities. There is a $10 cover (prime seats $20) plus a 2-item minimum (juice, soft drinks available).
