TORONTO: BRAVE NEW RECORDS DOUBLE-BILL: MACK LONGPRE GROUP AND ALEX TAIT
Brave New Records, a curated a collective of exciting emerging Jazz and RnB artists from Toronto, Canada will present On two BNR ensembles at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Wednesday, February 25th at wih sets at 8:00 & 9:30 pm. This will be the collective's first official double bill since launching in November. The first set of the evening will be hosted by The Mack Longpre Group. Mack is one of Toronto's busiest young drummers, and his own small ensemble featuring Allison Au (alto sax), Tara Kannagara (trumpet), Rob Grieve (guitar), Chris Pruden (keys) and Tyler Emond (bass) has just released a beautiful new E.P. of Mack's original modern jazz compositions. His first full-length album, Summer House, featured guest vocals by Alex Tait- so we may see a collaboration during this set! The second set of the night will be hosted by vocalist Alex Tait's contemporary jazz quintet featuring Thomas Francis (keys), Mack Longpre (drums), Shafton Thomas (bass) and Neil Whitford (guitar). They will be performing songs from Alex's recently released debut full-length album, Thirty. Alex's music combines a fresh perspective on classic jazz with more modern alternative pop and RnB influences like Bjork and Esperanza Spalding. There is a $15 cover.
