Casa del HaHa comes to MARTINI'S ABOVE FOURTH (3940 4th Avenue, San Diego, CA - 619-400-4500) on Monday, February 23rd at 8:00 pm with an irresistible evening of sketch comedy and music hosted by Phil Johnson a.k.a Senor Phil. It's a fabulously funny and flamboyant February fundraiser for Diversionary Theatre. Senor Phil will be joined by David McBean, Tony Houck, Samantha Ginn and Brian Mackey. There is a $15 cover.
LOS ANGELES: LAURE ZAEHRINGER IN "SOMETHING COOL" - A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO JUNE CHRISTY
French Jazz singer Laure Zaehringer, with her silky smooth interpretations, will explore some of the great songs connected with June, her arrangers and circle of some of the world' s greatest jazz men, at the E SPOT LOUNGE AT VITELLO'S (4349 Tujunga Avenue, Studio City, CA - 818-769-0905 - ) on Monday, February 23rd at 8:00 pm. With a seven piece band made up of Los Angeles studio players, connections will be made to Stan Kenton, Pete Rugolo, Bob Cooper, Marty Paich, Dave Pell, Bill Holman and many others though arrangements, compositions and stories. Songs that will be explored include: "Tampico", "It's Been a Long, Long Time", "Interlude", "Something Cool", "How High the Moon", "Midnight Sun", "Angel Eyes", "Just a Sittin' and a Rockin' and "It's a Most Unusual Day" to name just a few. There is a $20-$45 cover.
LOS ANGELES, CA: BROADWAY CAGE MATCH!
Broadway Cage Match, an evening of triple-threatening battle for showbiz glory, hosted by Justin Jones and Bruce Merkle, will be presented at ROCKWELL: TABLE & STAGE (1714 Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA - 323-669-1550) on Monday, February 23rd at 8:00 pm. There will be blood and jazz hands as cast members from Billy Elliot at La Mirada and Suessical at 3-D Theatricals go toe to toe in the hilarious competition Broadway Cage Match. See some of the most talented show tune singers around duke it out in interactive performance games involving memorization, rapid-fire costume changes and "screlting," (a method of singing wherein the belting out of a given song becomes a high, loud - yet somehow still listenable scream). You'll want to leave the screaming to the pros, but feel free to cheer your heart out as these vivacious vocalists strap on the gloves and battle for show-biz glory. There is a $15 cover plus $1.90 fee.
