WASHINGTON, DC: JONATHAN BUTLER AT BLUES ALLEY
Acclaimed South African two-time Grammy nominated songwriter, guitarist, and producer, Jonathan Butler will perform at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141 - ) on Thursday through Sunday, November 6th through 9th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Butler has had a 25 year recording career in pop, R&B, smooth jazz and adult formats. Butler, a soulfully inspired man, sees music as his salvation. If we must label and define this individually gifted artist and his music, "soul jazz" seems to be the most fitting and is a driving force behind his live performances. There is a $50 cover.
BETHESDA, MD: RHONDA ROSS AT BETHESDA BLUES
Neo-Soul Jazz Stylist Rhonda Ross will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500 - ) on Thursday, November 6th at 8:00 pm. Rhonda's uplifting and resonant voice immediately strikes a chord with music lovers. And her unique phrasing and authenticity to her art sets her apart from other vocalists. As the only child of Diana Ross and Motown Founder Berry Gordy, it has become evident that Rhonda not only has the talent, but the significance to carry on her parents' legacy, all the while establishing her own unique musical destination. Rhonda's music is based in Black-American traditional jazz. In 1994, she met, married, and began a 20-year musical collaboration with jazz pianist and composer Rodney Kendrick. Through him, Rhonda commenced studying with the late jazz great Abbey Lincoln. Now a mother to a preschool-age son, Rhonda's music has taken on the more mature stance. Last year, she headlined President Obama's 2nd Inaugural Ball, and later performed to rave reviews at The Hollywood Bowl. This year includes performances at The Montreal International Jazz Festival, Wolf Trap, and The Theater at Madison Square Garden. There is a $25-$30 cover.
