NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JoANNE BRACKEEN TRIO WITH RUDRESH MAHANTHAPPA AT THE BLUE NOTE

The JoAnne Brackeen Trio (JoAnne Brackeen - Piano, Dezron Douglas - Bass and Neal Smith - Drums) with special guest Rudresh Mahanthappa on Sax, will perform at THE BLUE NOTE(131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, October 6th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. JoAnne Brackeen is consistently ranked by critics and jazz magazines as one of the best jazz pianists in the world, along with Keith Jarrett, McCoy Tyner, and Chick Corea. Her writing is remarkable for its creativity, stylistic range, emotional depth, and whimsical spirit. Her storied career does indeed invite parallels to Picasso; like the great visual artist, she has consistently defied convention, remaking herself and her art many times over. Throughout her career, JoAnne has operated at full capacity in a male-dominated field, breaking through the glass ceiling and becoming an icon for women in jazz. Few musicians share the ability of saxophonist/composer Rudresh Mahanthappa to embody the expansive possibilities of his music with his culture. What has materialized is a sound that hybridizes progressive jazz and South Indian classical music in a fluid and forward-looking form that reflects Mahanthappa's own experience growing up a second-generation Indian-American. There is a $15-$25 cover.

NYC: MANHATTAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC CONCERT JAZZ BAND AT DIZZY'S

The Manhattan School of Music Concert Jazz Band with Justin DiCioccio, conductor, will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, October 6th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. The Manhattan School of Music is a long-time fixture in the New York music scene and prides itself to be one of the first conservatories in the United States to acknowledge the prime importance of jazz as an art form. The Manhattan School of Music Concert Jazz Band features some of the world's most talented emerging artists. These talented young musicians prove that the spirit of swing is alive and well, and that the future of jazz is in extremely capable hands. Tonight, the band takes on the music of NEA Jazz Master George Russell, the great 20th century pianist, composer, and musical theorist. There is a $35 cover.
