BOSTON: THE PIERRE HUREL TRIO AT THE REGATTABAR
The Pierre Hurel Trio (Pierre Hurel, piano; John Funkhouser, bass; and Mike Connors, drums) will appear at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Thursday, October 9th at 7:30 pm. The Pierre Hurel Trio returns to the Regattabar to share their signature sound and new original music. Born in Paris, pianist and composer Pierre Hurel was first discovered by Paris Jazz Conservatory's founder and director Charles Henry. At age 20, as he was about to reluctantly start a career in business, Hurel decided to change course and enrolled at the School of Modern Music in Paris. Six months later, he came to Boston for a summer session at the Berklee College of Music and has remained there ever since. There is an $18 cover.
BOSTON: CASSANDRE MCKINLEY AT SCULLERS
Cassandre McKinley will perform at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Thursday, October 9th at 8:00 pm. Cassandre has a vocal style that walks the line between jazz and soul - a voice that is commanding, vibrant and rich - with "chops" to spare. But, she's no diva - though she'll confidently and easily weave her way through The American Songbook and Soul Classics alike, singing with the maturity and wisdom of a veteran performer, she will stop to tell you a story - unwittingly disarming you like the "girl next door" she truly is. Dinner/Show: $65 Show only: $25.
TORONTO: JAZZ BISTRO YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: KRISTIAN PODLACHA
Kristian Podlacha will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, October 9th through 11th at 6:00 pm. Born into a musical family, Kristian started studying piano at 7 and was writing classically by 8. Early exposure to Oscar Peterson and Django Reinhardt caused him to fall deeply in love with jazz, a style of music that has shaped his life. Since then, he has explored and performed swing, French jazz manouche, contemporary jazz, and classical music. The result is a highly personal sound blending the harmony of French impressionists Ravel and Debussy with the passion of jazz manouche; all placed within the sophistication of modern jazz. Kristian has performed at virtually all of the major live music venues in Toronto, and performed for Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, an event honouring Justin Trudeau. He has shared the stage with such luminaries as Jason Marsalis, Leslie Dawn-Knowles, members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Canadian Opera Company, and on OmniTV, CP24 and Canada's Got Talent. He is currently studying piano at the University of Toronto with scholarship. There is no cover.
