BOSTON: JAZZ VOCALIST/SONGWRITER JILL BARBER AT THE REGATTABAR
Jazz vocalist/songwriter Jill Barber will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Wednesday, September 24th at 7:30 pm. At first listen, what sets Jill Barber apart is her distinctive voice. But it's her ability to write an immediately memorable song that has made her one of Canada's most recognizable artists. On Fool's Gold, her 6th studio album, Jill continues to explore different musical styles, from traditional country, to jazz and Motown, though she rarely works neatly within the confines of any one genre. Instead she writes in the spirit of the Brill Building era where hook and melody reigned. Jill Barber has become renowned for writing songs that evoke feelings of a bygone era. The songs on Fool's Gold are delivered by that distinct, evocative voice of an artist who has drawn inspiration from a cross section of musical genres. Regardless of Jill's influences, the one thing you are always assured of is that you know a Jill Barber song when you hear it, and chances are, you'll never forget it. There is a $20 cover.

Singer/songwriter and poet, Offiong Bassey will perform at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB(400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111 - ) on Wednesday, September 24th at 8:00 pm. Bassey is an exciting artist who draws upon the numerous influences that have touched her life. As the first generation from her Nigerian family born in the U.S., the soul, jazz, and gospel music of America reside within her just as comfortably as the musical traditions of West Africa. She brings to them her unique ear for harmonies and phrasing, her ground-shaking, power vocals, and her unmatched versatility to create music that is fresh, inspiring, and just plain fun. TORONTO: KEVIN BARRETT PLUS ONE AT THE JAZZ BISTRO
Kevin Barrett, a guitarist, musical director, composer and producer based in Toronto, will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 ) on Wednesdays, September 10th, 17th & 24th at 8:00 pm. Each week he will feature a guest performer. His guest on the 24th is Gillian Margot. Over his 30+ year career, Kevin has worked with some of Canada's finest artists, including Molly Johnson, Lillian Allen, Patricia Cano, Kellylee Evans, Julie Michels, Big Rude Jake, DK Ibomeka, the Liquidaires, Sharron McLeod, Arlene Mantle and the Stratford Festival. He acts currently as Musical Director for Daniela Nardi's ESPRESSO MANIFESTO and for Ron Davis' symphRONica. The duo format is one of Kevin's favourite performance modes. Both musicians need to be grounded but light on their feet, and prepared to lead and follow in dynamic interplay. Call for cover/minimum information.
