PALM SPRINGS: "DYNAMIC DUO" COMES TO ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATER
Local singers Patti Gallagher and Mark Almy will perform their new cabaret concert show, "Dynamic Duo" at THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731) on Sunday, September 21st at 2:00 pm. The show is presented by Les Michaels' Sundays In Summer Series. The show will include famous duets from memorable musicals in duet history by composers such as Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Schwartz and more. Joining them will be acclaimed musical director Paul Cracchiolo on the baby grand. Both Patti Gallagher and Mark Almy have extensive experience in musical theater as well as opera. Mark, who studied throughout the world, has taught at some of the most prestigious institutes in the country and is currently on the staff at College Of The Desert. Patti won a scholarship to Denver University earning a BA in Opera Performance. But her heart has always been in musical theater and has played leads in such shows as Carousel, Wonderful Town, Pal Joey, Man Of La Mancha, The Music Man, and The King And I. In 2000 she was crowned Ms. Senior America which took her on a tour throughout the US. In the last few years she's been starring in her own one-woman cabaret shows around the desert. Musical director Paul Cracchiolo has been involved in professional productions in the desert for more than 15 years, winning many awards and is in much demand for his music, writing, producing, and directing skills. There is an $11 cash cover.
LOS ANGELES: CHARMAINE CLAMOR AT CATALINA JAZZ CLUB
Charmaine Clamor will perform at CATALINA JAZZ CLUB (6725 West Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, CA - 323-466-2210) on Sunday, September 21st at 7:30 pm. Charmaine Clamor is America's leading Filipina jazz and world vocalist. With two consecutive albums in the JazzWeek World Music Top-10, including the rare feat of simultaneously making Top-5 on both the World (#2 ranking) and Traditional Jazz (#4) radio charts, Charmaine has earned unprecedented praise for introducing American audiences to Filipino languages, melodies, and instruments and for sharing a once-in-a-generation, astonishingly expressive voice. LOS ANGELES: DENNIS MCNEIL AT THE COMEDY & MAGIC CLUB
Dennis McNeil is back at THE COMEDY & MAGIC CLUB(1018 Hermosa Avenue, Hermosa Beach, CA - 310-371-1193- ) on Sunday, September 21st at 7;30 pm. Musical director is Ed Martel. Dennis is a highly sought after performer in the corporate and concert world having performed for the AT&T Board of Directors, New York Life Insurance Company, the Kemper Insurance Open, Aon Insurance Company, and Hearst Corporation to name only a few. He performed for President George W. Bush's first Inauguration for nearly 7500 guests at three VIP inaugural dinners and he was personally invited to sing at the Kennedy Space Center Memorial for the Space Shuttle Columbia and crew. An international recording artist, Dennis has released seven CDs: Center Stage, It's Christmas!, Requests, Celtic Fire, The Spirit of Christmas, Forever Irish, and Ave Maria. Johnny Coppola, singer, songwriter and producer, performs at ROCKWELL: TABLE & STAGE (1714 Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA - 323-669-1550) on Sunday, September 21st at 8:00 pm. Johnny has released two albums, the first entitled Hollywood Indigo drew critical acclaim in 2004. His newest release called A Shot To The Kisser is currently available on ITunes and anywhere music is available. He not only sings selections from the Great American Songbook but has also penned several neo-standards; new songs in the style of the post war jet age. Influenced by the great songwriters of the past, The music harkens back to a bye-gone era when no man would leave the house without a necktie and a Fedora and women dressed to kill. His dynamic quintet is led by Grammy Award winning pianist Bill Cunliffe. Call for cover/minimum information.
