BOSTON: YOUN SUN NAH & ULF WAKENIUS DUO
Youn Sun Nah and the Ulf Wakenius Duo perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Thursday, September 18th at 7:30 pm. Youn Sun Nah is well regarded for her remarkable vocal prowess. The Korean jazz vocalist's ability to present each song in her own unique style filled full of emotions and passion has consistently captured her audience in attentive silence, ending with roaring appreciation. The songstress traverse the vocal spectrum effortlessly to the extent where she's not just another vocalist, she's a musical instrument. Growing up in a musical family where her father was a conductor and her mother, a musical actress, music has always been in her life. Nah eventually began her own musical journey and made her first debut at the tender age of 23 at a joint concert collaborating with the Korean Symphony Orchestra. The performance was her stepping-stone into the Korean music scene. Ulf Wakenius is a jazz guitarist extraordinaire acclaimed and celebrated all over the world. Between 1997 and 2007 Ulf held what may have been the most prestigious spot in jazz for a guitarist: a chair in the Oscar Peterson Quartet.This was the coronation of a career which included many record-breaking moments. TORONTO: VITO REZZA QUARTET AT THE JAZZ BISTRO
Vito Rezza, one of Canada's most passionate, highly accomplished, world-class drummers, will perform atTHE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, September 18th through 20th at 8:00 pm. Self taught, with early guidance from the unsung drummer/composer Claude Ranger, Vito quickly became a prominent and respected member in the music scene. Choosing his own path and not following the paved way has defined him as a distinct, vibrant and passionate individual with a unique identity in music and moreover as a human. He is one of the greats worldwide. Currently being celebrated for 50 years in music, he is regarded and respected by several prominent colleagues in the industry for being an inspired human, a great drummer and composer alike. He is backed by Lorne Lofsky on guitar, Kieran Overs on bass and Pat LaBarbera on tenor saxophone. There is a $15 cover.
