PALM SPRINGS, CA: MEG MCLYNN IN "FOOLIN' 'ROUND: THE PASTY CLINE SONGBOOK"
Meg McLynn brings her show "Foolin' 'Round: The Patsy Cline Songbook" to THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731) for one show only on Sunday, September 14th at 2:00 pm. The title of the show is taken from one of Patsy Cline's many hit songs, which will be featured in this tribute backed by The Purple Phoenix Trio led by Seattle musical director David Duvall. The show is part of Les Michaels' Sundays In Summer Series. Originally from the East Coast, Meg McLynn earned her BFA degree then left to entertain audiences from Miami to Anchorage before settling in Seattle in 2010 and teaches acting and voice as well as performs in theatrical and musical productions and as a popular singer with local bands in jazz, and blues clubs, along with her cabaret solo shows. Her interest in the legendary country star came about after singing Ms. Cline's signature hit "Crazy" and fans saying how much their voices were alike, which led Meg to learn more of Patsy's songs. Researching the singer's story came next and Meg's extensive acting training made telling it to audiences came easy, but don't expect an impersonation or costumes. You will get Patsy's familiar hit songs that will bring back memories of the country star that died tragically in a single-engine plane crash on March 4, 1963 at the age of 29 with 3 other country performers in route to Nashville after performing for a benefit in Kansas City. There is an $11 cash cover.

SAN FRANCISCO: KABUL DREAMS WITH RANA MANSOUR & KARMANDAN
Kabul Dreams, an indie rock band formed in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2008, will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Sunday, September 14th at 7:00 pm. They are Afghanistan's first modern rock band. The band's members all resided outside Afghanistan during the Taliban era, returning to the country following the fall of the Taliban. During the Taliban era singer, songwriter and guitarist Sulyman Qardash lived in Uzbekistan, bass guitarist Siddique Ahmad in Pakistan, and drummer Mujtaba Habibi in Iran (he was replaced by Raby Adib in 2014). They are influenced by British bands such as Radiohead and Travis. Their album, Plastic Words (mixed by Alan Sanderson), was released in April 2013. In 2014 they moved to the US and are planning their first US tour. Also performing are Rana Mansour and the Karmandan. Never having been to Iran, American-born Iranian Rana Mansour is nonetheless influenced by her heritage, and she expresses this by uniting musical elements from both the East and the West. This unique infusion has resulted in some very exciting opportunities for Rana. This rising star was recently seen performing her original song "No Place Like Home" on the last few episodes of Bravo TV's hit show, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Rana currently lives in Los Angeles where she collaborates with Karmandan, established by Erwin Kachikian in 2010. There is a $35-$45 cover.
