PALM SPRINGS: CHARLES BUSCH AT THE COPA
Charles Busch will perform at THE COPA (244 East Amado Road, Palm Springs CA - 760-866-0021 ) on Friday & Saturday, September 19th & 20th at 8:00 pm. Charles Busch is the author and star of such plays as The Divine Sister, The Lady in Question, Red Scare on Sunset and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, which ran five years and is one of the longest running plays in Off-Broadway history. His play The Tale of the Allergist's Wife ran for 777 performances on Broadway and won Mr. Busch the Outer Circle Critics John Gassner Award and received a Tony nomination for Best Play. He wrote and starred in the film versions of his plays, Psycho Beach Party and Die Mommie Die, the latter of which won him the Best Performance Award at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2003, Mr. Busch received a special Drama Desk Award for career achievement as both performer and playwright. Mr. Busch made his directorial debut with the film A Very Serious Person, which premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival, where it won an honorable mention. LOS ANGELES: PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE: THE SONGS OF LOVE AT THE GARDENIA
Tucson based jazz and blues singer Katherine Byrnes and LA based baritone Jerry Hill present Past, Present & Future: The Songs Of Love, at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Friday & Saturday, September 19th & 20th at 9:00 pm. They are accompanied by John Randall as music director. An award-winning vocalist based in Tucson, Katherine Byrnes has toured the world as a featured soloist with the UA Studio Jazz Ensemble and with the Billboard-topping Amos Lee Band. In Tucson, she has worked with Linda Ronstadt, Jeffrey Haskell, and beloved indie rockers Calexico, but she recently made her L.A. debut with her band, Sweet Ghosts. Jerry Hill's background is in musical theater, having played "Tommy" in Brigadoon and roles in other musicals. He is an alumnus of Yale's Cabaret Conference. There is a $10 cover plus a 2-drink minimum or dinner.
SAN FRANCISCO: BARRY LLOYD WITH "NOT A MOMENT TOO SOON!" THE SONGS OF MURRAY GRAND.
Barry Lloyd will present "Not a Moment Too Soon!" the Songs of Murray Grand at SOCIETY CABARET AT THE HOTEL REX (562 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94102 - 800-982-2787 ) on Friday & Saturday, September 19th & 20th at 8:00 pm. The songs of Murray Grand run the gamut from hilarious and irreverent to solemn and sublime. In addition to contributing material to such landmark revues as NEW FACES of '52, '56 and '68, and Julius Monk's FOUR BELOW, Mr. Grand also composed special night club act material for such artists as Alice Ghostley, Phyllis Diller, Dody Goodman, Joanne Worley, Beatrice Lillie, Hermione Gingold and Paul Lynde.
