WASHINGTON, DC: THE BOHEMIAN CAVERNS JAZZ ORCHESTRA MONDAYS
The Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra performs every Monday night at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Still the Hottest Big Band in the City, The Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra is a 17 piece powerhouse force cofounded by baritone saxophonist Brad Linde, trumpeter Joe Herrera and club owner Omrao Brown. The BCJO presents a variety of music from big band literature and features some of the District's best musicians. Music from Ellington, Basie, Strayhorn, Thad Jones, Oliver Nelson, Maria Schneider and originals by band members will embrace and challenge the tradition of big band repertoire. Vocalist Vivian Sessions will perform at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Monday, June 9th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Recording artists are often criticized for sounding alike and carving their songs out of the cookie-cutting music factory. But every so often, an artist comes along with a voice that is so rich, so captivating, and refreshing that it draws one in and lures them to listen and take notice. Such is the case with Vivian Sessoms. Sessoms, a New York native, may not be recognizable by name but listeners are no strangers to the sound of her voice. She has been the voice behind many commercial jingles for some of the world's favorite products like Campbell's Soup, Hershey's Chocolate, Coke, Adidas and Dark & Lovely, to name a few. Vivian is also better known for her vocal recordings and live performances with such musical icons as Michael Jackson, Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Cher, and many others including pop diva Pink and at present, Joe Cocker on his "Hymn For My Soul" worldtour. BETHESDA, MD: BAD INFLUENCE: A SILVER SPRING BLUES FESTIVAL
The award-winning Bad Influence band will perform atBETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Monday, June 9th at 7:30 pm. Bad Influence features Bob Mallardi on bass and vocals, Roger Edsall on harp and vocals, Michael "Jr" Tash on guitar and vocals, and David Thaler on the drums. From foreign shores to local haunts, accolades abound for Bad Influence. The band's performances and CDs have earned winning reviews in magazines and newspapers throughout the U.S. and abroad. Their latest CD, "Under The Influence", was a 2012 IBC Finalist for Best Self Produced CD, and a 2012 WAMMIE award nominee for Best Blues Recording, and is getting extensive airplay on terrestrial and satellite radio stations alike.
