LONDON: JUDY CARMICHAEL AND COLIN OXLEY AT CRAZY COQS
The very popular club regular, Judy Carmichael, is joined for this week-long headlining act by guitarist Colin Oxley, atTHE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888) - Tuesday through Saturday, June 10th through 14th at 8:00 pm. In addition. bassist Dave Green joins them from June 12th to 14th and a special surprise guest will appear on June 13th and14th. The programme will feature songs from Judy's newest CD 'I Love Being Here With You', including compositions by Peggy Lee, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and Gershwin. Judy will also debut her original compositions My Manhattan (music and lyrics) and I Can See Forever (Harry Allen music, Judy's lyrics). Not many contemporary jazz pianists can boast a nickname given to them by the great Count Basie, but Grammy nominee Judy Carmichael can. When Basie heard Judy on one of her first gigs he was so impressed, he dubbed her "Stride" in reference to her mastery of that early piano style popularized by Thomas "Fats" Waller and James P. Johnson. Today, Judy Carmichael is considered one of the greatest pianists in the swing tradition and one of the most sensitive vocalists. Call for cover/minimum information.

Performing all week at 8:00 pm at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888), Judy Carmichael returns to the stage on Friday & Saturday, June 13th & 14th at 10:30 pm for a session of Late Night Jazz to present her show OLD FASHIONED LOVE, celebrating the music of Fats Waller, Cole Porter, Benny Goodman and other masters of the swing era. Not many contemporary jazz pianists can boast a nickname given to them by the great Count Basie, but Grammy nominee Judy Carmichael can. When Basie heard Judy, on one of her first gigs, he was so impressed he dubbed her "Stride" in reference to her mastery of that early piano style popularized by Thomas "Fats" Waller and James P. Judy is a favourite with both jazz and cabaret audiences with her soulful, swinging interpretations of the Great American Songbook, and equally impressive hilarious, improvisational anecdotes. Her wit and musical knowledge come together on her weekly radio broadcast Judy Carmichael's Jazz Inspired, where she talks with celebrated creative people about their love for jazz and how it inspires them. The Joe Boyd Trio, featuring Joe Boyd (Guitar/Vocal), Matt Curd (Bass), and Cameron Morrell (Drums) will perform atTHE PHEASANTRY (152-154 King's Road, London SW3 4UT - 08456 027 017) on Friday, June 13th at 8:30 pm. Following the release of the new album 'Gutter Moon', including the singles 'Little Hymn' & 'Bury My Heart', Joe has been performing with his live trio at venues across the capital, gaining attention for his unique brand of melodic blues, funk & jazz.
