NYC: STACEY KENT AT BIRDLAND
Critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated singer Stacey Kent will perform at BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday, June 10th through 14th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Stacey sings from the soul, telling her stories with faultless phrasing and a lucid, enchanting voice. Stacey returns to Birdland in support of her brand new Brazilian-flavored CD, "The Changing Lights," (EMI) a follow-up to "Dreamer In Concert," (her first ever live album) the Grammy nominated, "Breakfast on the Morning Tram," (2007) and all-French, "Raconte-moi," (2009). Stacey's band features Jim Tomlinson (sax) whose songwriting partnership with famed novelist Kazuo Ishiguro has formed the central plank in Stacey's recent albums. There is a $40-$45 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

The Blue Note Jazz Festival presents the Jake Sherman Organ Trio (Jake Sherman - Organ, Myron Walden - Saxophone, Mark Whitfield Jr. - Drums) at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Tuesday, June 10th at 6:30 pm as part of the club's Emerging Artist Series. The versatile organist Jake Sherman is quickly establishing a major reputation as a collaborative musician and soloist. He currently performs with the Ralph Peterson Unity Project and has recently appeared with Warren Wolf, David Fiuczynski, Jamire Williams, Lalah Hathaway, and Bilal, among others. Jake's fascination with the organ led him to gospel music, and he now plays gospel organ every Sunday at the Greater Antioch Temple in Brooklyn. Jake also has a career as a singer-songwriter. He recently released his first solo album, for which he wrote all the music and lyrics, sang, and laid down all the instrumental tracks. Call for cover/minimum information.

The Blue Note Jazz Festival presents the Lou Donaldson Quartet featuring Dr. Lonnie Smith at THE BLUE NOTE(131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Tuesday & Wednesday, June 10th & 11th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Lou Donaldson will be performing at the Blue Note with his world class Quartet with whom he has been touring the world playing Festivals and club for the past two decades. Lou Donaldson played an absolutely invaluable role in the creation and building of the classic Blue Note Record Label, and the assembly and musical development of the the classic Jazz Messengers bands that originally featured Lou Donaldson, Clifford Brown, Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Gene Ramey, Hank Mobley, and many other of the greatest creative virtuosos of the this entire era of modern jazz expression. Dr. Lonnie Smith is an unparalleled musician, composer, performer and recording artist. An authentic master and guru of the Hammond B-3 organ for over five decades, he has been featured on over seventy albums, and has recorded and performed with a virtual "Who's Who" of the greatest jazz, blues and R&B giants in the industry. There is a $20-$35 cover.
