CABARET TONIGHT IN MARYLAND: M-LAW AND THE PROPHETS OF JAZZ
M-Law & the Prophets of Jazz will perform an eclectic combination of Jazz influenced music such as R&B, funk, neo-soul, and hip-hop at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Wednesday, February 5th at 7:30 pm. M-Law & the Prophets of Jazz is a quartet consisting of trumpet, keys, electric bass, and drums. The band was formed by trumpet and flugelhorn player Mary Lawrence Hicks (M-Law) upon completion of her degree in Jazz Trumpet Performance in 2011. M-Law & the Prophets of Jazz performs cover material, sure to please fans of popular music, as well as music intellectuals. In the same set, they may play a Beyonce song, but then touch a lesser known but equally great artist such as Isaac Hayes. Hicks, being a serious trumpet player, may cover music in just one set by many trumpet heavyweights including Donald Byrd, Christian Scott, and Roy Hargrove. She is backed by a band full of great musicians in their own right. Everyone has excellent solo chops, as well as their own sound and exceptional abilities, honed during years of professionalism in the music industry. This matched with excellent chemistry is the recipe for a great musical experience. There is a $10 cover.
