CABARET TONIGHT IN BOSTON: HELEN SUNG QUINTET AT SCULLERS
Helen Sung brings her 'Anthem For A New Day' CD Release show to SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Wednesday, February 5th at 7:30 pm. She is joined by Jaleel Shaw - alto & soprano saxophones; Alex Norris - trumpet & flugelhorn; and Boris Kozlov -bass. Pianist/composer Helen Sung's debut at Scullers Jazz Club is a home-coming of sorts: after making the leap from classical to jazz during college, she went on to graduate from the first class of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, which started at Boston's New England Conservatory. Now based in New York City, Sung won the Kennedy Center's Mary Lou Williams Piano Competition and has worked with such luminaries as Clark Terry, Ron Carter, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Wayne Shorter. Besides maintaining a full schedule of touring/ performing, Sung is also on faculty at Berklee College of Music. This special one-night event with her stellar quintet also celebrates her debut release on Concord Records: Anthem For A New Day, and is made possible in part by North Coast Brewing Company, creator of Brother Thelonious Belgian Ale and long-time supporter of the Monk Institute.
