FLORIDA: STEVE TYRELL AT THE ROYAL ROOM IN JANUARY

Steve Tyrell returns in January for his sixth engagement in the THE ROYAL ROOM at THE COLONY HOTEL (155 Hammond Avenue, Palm Beach, FL - 561-659-8100) where he made his debut in January 2008. Performances are scheduled for Tuesdays through Saturdays, January 7th through 25th at 8:00 pm.The Grammy Award-winning vocalist is truly a renaissance man. In his four and a half decades in the music business, he has achieved great success as an artist, producer, songwriter, music supervisor, and performer. With his breakthrough performances in Father of the Bride and Father of the Bride II, Tyrell reinvented and re-popularized classic pop standards for a modern-day audience. His hits "The Way You Look Tonight," "The Simple Life," "Crush On You" and "The Sunny Side of The Street," have launched thousands of weddings and millions of romances. He's held top positions at Standards, Swing, and Big Band outlets with a devoted following at key Adult Contemporary Radio. He has appeared with The Boston Pops, twice with The New York Pops, The Nashville Symphony, and The Houston Symphony on several occasions. At the request of the Sinatra family and Quincy Jones, Tyrell was the featured performer with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra at their season opening concert in which Frank Sinatra was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. Also at the request of the Sinatra family, he reprised that performance this past May at Carnegie Hall. This is one of the rare times the family has reached into the vault of original Sinatra arrangements to share them with another artist. NEW ORLEANS: THE QUEENS OF KING: A TRIBUTE TO CAROLE KING

The Queens of King: A Tribute to Carol King, starring Lisa Picone and Dorian Rush will be presented at THE ALLWAYS LOUNGE & THEATRE (2240 St. Claude Avenue, New Orleans, LA - 504-758-5590) on Thursdays through Saturdays, January 16th through 25th at 8:00 pm. Big Easy Award-winning performers Lisa Picone and Dorian Rush are the Queens of King! Accompanied by music director Natalie True, they'll pay homage to the amazing Carole King who wrote and co-wrote over 400 songs that have been performed by over 1,000 recording artists. Picone and Rush will perform the songs that King made famous ("I Feel The Earth Move", "It's Too Late", "So Far Away") and the ones she wrote that others made famous ("Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", "Pleasant Valley Sunday", "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman", "You've Got A Friend").The show spans King's spectacular career, from her first big break in the 1960s up to the present day. SAN FRANCISCO: AIRTO MOREIRA & EYEDENTITY

Brazilian percussionist/drummer Airto Moreira, along with long-time collaborator group Eyedentity, will appar at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Thursday, January 23rd at 8;00 pm. Together they perform a wide variety of styles such as Afro-Brazilian, Samba and Bossa Nova, straight ahead Jazz and funky Jazz Fusion. In 1965, Airto met the singer Flora Purim in Rio de Janeiro. Flora moved to the USA in 1967 and Airto followed her shortly after. When in New York Airto began playing with musicians such as Reggie Workman, JJ Johnson, Cedar Walton and bassist Walter Booker. It was through Booker that Airto began playing with the greats - Cannonball Adderley, Lee Morgan, Paul Desmond and Joe Zawinul, to name a few. Zawignul recommended Airto to Miles Davis for a recording session in 1970 for the "Bitches Brew" album. Davis then invited Airto to join his group, which included such jazz icons as Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette, Chick Corea and later John McLaughlin and Keith Jarrett. He remained with Miles for two years, and appears on such releases as "Live/Evil", "Live at the Fillmore", "On the Corner", "The Isle of Wight", "Bitches Brew" and later releases including the "Fillmore Sessions." There is a $22 cover.

SAN FRANCISCO: "AN EVENING WITH JOAN RYAN, LIVE!"

Actress and singer Joan Ryan, who boasts an impressive four octave range, makes her long-awaited return to the San Francisco cabaret stage with her self-titled show 'Joan Ryan, Live!', at FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) on Thursday, January 23rd at 8:00 pm. The show was written and directed by Andrew MacBean (Associate Director with Trevor Nunn on Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects of Love and Sunset Boulevard) and musical direction from Todd Schroeder (musical director for Sam Harris, Jason Alexander). Ms. Ryan, is currently receiving both critical and audience praise in hit indie film "Hot Guys With Guns." Her stage credits include the original LA cast of the musical Ruthless!, the West Coast premiere of Anyone Can Whistle, Footloose, Triumph of Love, Little Shop of Horrors, among others. Known for her recurring role as Tina Pallodrino, the crazy music and arts teacher on the long-running series, "Saved By the Bell," Ryan has appeared on-screen in numerous television shows and movies including two years as Kathleen Houghton, everyone's favorite psychiatrist on "The Young and the Restless." Layered with fiercely rich vocals and an innate sense of humor and frank wisdom, 'Joan Ryan, Live!' is a musical journey through the life and eclectic career of "consummate performer" Joan Ryan. there is a $30-$40 cover cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
