CELEBRATING MARCH IS CABARET MONTH
The French singer and actress Floanne returns to JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555 - ) on Sunday, March 24th at 7:30 pm with a new edition of her still unfolding Edith Piaf project, "Edith Piaf Alive." In a theatrical performance that mixes song and theatre, Floanne daringly invites her muse to share the stage and speak for herself, before taking off on her own. Directed by Alice Jankell, with music direction by Ian James, "Edith Piaf Alive" offers a personal look at one of the 20th century's most iconoclastic icons. In Floanne's hands the "Little Sparrow" is both tender and destructive; she rises to dizzying heights and falls to darkest oblivion. Herself a French farm girl from Grenoble whose own bohemian dreams have led her far from home, the New York-based Floanne infuses her dramatic evocation of Piaf's art with a contemporary energy, comedy and rhythm. Her mixing of song, theatre, dance and opera, is meant to amplify the concert experience, to bring it more in line with French music hall going back to the last century and even beyond. There is a $20 cover plus a $12 food/drink minimum.
