NYC CABARET: THE BIRTH OF A DIVA - A MUSICAL STORYTELLING
Opera and Concert Singer Julia Chalfin brings her autobiographical one-woman show The Birth of a Diva to THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Saturday, June 1st at 7:00 pm. Julia made her debut with this show at the 2012 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Her cabaret-meets-opera style of storytelling highlights her humorous journey of musical self-discovery through Musicals, Rock 'n' Roll, Jazz and Classical music, in search of the appropriate genre and world fame. The program includes songs from "Les Miserables", Walt Disney's "The Little Mermaid", "Think" by Aretha Franklin, "My Funny Valentine" and "Summertime" as well as beautiful classical jewels by Mozart, Handel, Bizet, Puccini Lehar and Dvorak. She humorously shares her vocal-experimentation through the different genres of music on her determined search for fame and fortune. With her "never never never never give up" mentality, Julia gives a fascinating glimpse into what it takes to become a singer and the psychology behind the polished facade of a prima donna. There is a $10 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
