NJ: THE LUNA FUSION FEST: THE HEART AND SOUL OF ROCK AND JAZZ

LUNA STAGE (555 Valley Road, West Orange, NJ - 973-395-5551) initiates a new tradition in the Valley Arts District when it brings electric jazz and big band rock to its stages for the last weekend in July, Saturday & Sunday, July 28th & 29th. Fans of arena rock, bebop, big bands and jam bands are all welcome to join some of New York's busiest studio musicians, composers, and teachers for two days of futuristic nostalgia. The Luna Fusion Fest kicks off Saturday, July 28th at 3:00 pm with SHORT FUSE - a free children's workshop with internationally acclaimed percussionist and educator Gregg Bendian (Cecil Taylor, Pat Metheny, Ornette Coleman, William Paterson, Yale). At 8:00 pm, The Mahavishnu Project electrifies the night as Gregg Bendian is joined by guitarist Jesse Gress, keyboardist Neil Alexander, and bassist Doug Lunn. The Mahavishnu Project reinterprets classic compositions from Jeff Beck, Billy Cobham, John McLaughlin, and Jan Hammer, while seamlessly meshing the beauty of their intricate charts with their own imaginative proficiency. Afternoon events are free and each evening event is $20 for adults, $15 for students with ID.

NYC: RICK JENSEN, "TONIGHT, NEW YORK CITY"

Multiple MAC, BISTRO and GLAMA Award-winning songwriter, Rick Jensen will appear in a revue of his music at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) for three performances on Saturdays, July 14th, 21st and 28th at 7:00 pm. The show is inspired by Jensen's recent song, "Tonight, New York City", and looks back on Jensen's 27 years as a working musician in Manhattan. Joining him will be vocalists Tanya Holt, Justin Ritchie and this year's Metro star winner, Marissa Mulder. The show is directed by Lina Koutrakos. Jensen's song "Go Ahead And Dream" was featured in the 2011 Ed Harris film, "That's What I Am", which was the centerpiece of the 2011 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Other Jensen compositions that have become standards in the cabaret and nightclub scene in New York and coast to coast include "In Passing Years" and "Amanda Sang". Artists who have recorded Jensen's songs include Lee Lessack, Lina Koutrakos, and the late Nancy LaMott, and Jensen can be heard singing his own songs on his award-winning CD, "Spring Harvest". In all, Jensen's work has earned him five Manhattan Association of Cabaret and Clubs (MAC) Awards, two Bistro Awards, and two National Gay and Lesbian American Music (GLAMA) awards. Cabaret favorites Tommy Femia and Rick Skye have teamed up for another evening of "Judy and Liza Together Again" at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Saturdays, July 14th & 28th at 8:30 pm. They are joined by Ricky Ritzel (as Mort) at the piano. These MAC Award winning performers (Best Impersonation) will pull out all the stops, singing classic solo's, parodies, duets and just plain whooping and hollering by the greatest mother/ daughter team in show biz history. Tommy Femia is a 7 time winner of the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) Award for his brilliant portrayal of Judy Garland in "Judy Garland LIVE!", now in it's 20th season at Don't Tell Mama. He has also starred in "Whoop-de-doo", "I Will Come Back" and, most recently, "Norma Does Men". Rick Skye is best known for writing a string of outrageous comic revues including "The Flip Side of Neil Sedaka", "MaCabaret - a tabloid fable", "The War of the Mama Roses", "It's Madame with an E" and the International hit - "A Slice O' Minnelli" for which has enjoyed successful season's in Covent Garden, at the Apollo Theatre in London's West End and at the Dublin Theatre Festival where he received the Award for "Best Achievement in Performance". SF: THE TOMMY IGOE BIG BAND AT THE RRAZZ

The Tommy Igoe Big Band will perform at RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189) on Mondays through August 27th at 7:30 pm, featuring 15 of the Bay Area's finest musicians, including members of Tower of Power, Santana and The Doobie Brothers. Drummer Tommy Igoe's Big Band is the hottest big band in NYC, and has been playing to sold out audiences every Friday night at the famed BIRDLAND for the past five years. He brings the same musical acumen to San Francisco, and endeavors to change the face of nightlife on Mondays. Igoe brings his big band pedigree (his father Sonny Igoe was the drummer for Benny Goodman and Woody Herman during the 40s-50s) to create a big band for the 21st Century. This is not nostalgia, but a forward-looking spin on a uniquely American format. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Julie Halston is one of the theatre's busiest and most well-known actresses, will perform her show "Classical Julie" at BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, July 23rd at 7:00 pm. The show will combine classic Halston rants with brand new material, including her inimitable take on Ibsen and other highly literate writers. She is currently appearing in the Tony-Award winning Broadway musical, Anything Goes as the hilarious Evangeline Harcourt. Last season she received a Drama Desk Nomination for her acclaimed performance in Charles Busch's smash hit play The Divine Sister. Her range and resume includes Broadway musicals such as Gypsy, Hairspray, The Boys from Syracuse and Anything Goes, as well as hit revivals such as On the Twentieth Century (co-starring Anne Heche and Alec Baldwin), The Women and The Butter and Egg Man. Primarily known as a comedic actress, she nonetheless has garnered kudos for her work in the plays The Vagina Monologues, Love, Loss and What I Wore and Olive and The Bitter Herbs. Miss Halston is a three-time Drama Desk Nominee, a two-time Outer Critics Nominee and a two-time Drama League Nominee. Her theatrical life originated when she and renowned playwright, Charles Busch helped found the now-legendary Off-Broadway company, Theatre-in Limbo, where they co-starred in many of the productions, including Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, Red Scare on Sunset, The Lady in Question and Shanghai Moon. Both she and Mr. Busch were among the first recipients to receive the designation "Legend of Off-Broadway" from the Off- Broadway Theatre Alliance and an Excellence in the Theatre Award from The Abington Theatre Company. NYC: THE FOURTH ANNUAL BROADWAY MEOWS BENEFIT CONCERT

The 4th Annual Broadway Meows Concert for the Humane Society of New York will be presented at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788), one night only, Monday, July 23rd at 7:00 pm. The evening will be comprised of songs by composer/ lyricist Seth Bisen-Hersh. Bisen-Hersh will be joined on stage by a phenomenal cast including Gisela Adisa (Hairspray, RCCL), Toby Blackwell (Rent), Lanene Charters (Mamma Mia), Brian Childers (Danny and Sylvia), Hannah DelMonte (Fiddler on the Roof), Nkrumah Gatling (Hair), Kimberly Faye Greenberg (One Night with Fanny Brice), Kevin Greene (A Tale of Two Cities), Lara Janine (Rock of Ages), Kaitlin Kiyan (Hair), Anthony Lee Medina (Spring Awakening), Manu Narayan (Bombay Dreams), Elly Noble (Carrie), Rori Nogee (Pinkalicious), Joi Danielle Price (Mamma Mia), Daniel Quadrino (Bye, Bye Birdie), Kristine Reese (Wicked), Brian Charles Rooney (Pop, The Threepenny Opera) and Cailan Rose (Hair). The concert will be produced by Dennis Fowler, directed by Laura Pestronk, stage managed by Rich Abrams. The show will feature 20 songs from Bisen-Hersh's catalog featuring songs from Love Quirks, More to Love and Stanley's Party. Songs will include "I'd Rather Take a Nap", "It's Not You, It's Me", "I'm Not Interested in You", "I Like Big Girls", "Can You Believe I Was Ever Sad We Broke Up?" and the popular youtube hit, "Hey!". All the proceeds for the evening will go to the Humane Society of New York, which has cared for animals in need when illness, injury or homelessness strikes" for over 100 years. The Humane Society saved Bisen-Hersh's cat, Smee's, life in 2009, and this annual benefit is his way of saying thanks. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

BROADWAY'S RISING STARS ON JULY 23RD

THE TOWN HALL (123 West 43rd Street, NYC - 212-997-1929), New York's landmark theatre and concert venue continues the 6th Annual Summer Broadway Festival, with Broadway's Rising Stars on July 23rd, and concludes with Liz Callaway's new show, Even Stephen (with Jason Danieley, Joshua Henry and Norm Lewis) on July 30th. The Summer Broadway Festival is created, hosted and written by Scott Siegel for The Town Hall. BROADWAY'S RISING STARS on July 23rd is once again directed by Nightlife Award-winning vocalist Scott Coulter. The next generation of Broadway performers were chosen during auditions throughout the spring and come from theatrical institutions across the country, including AMDA, CAP21, Steinhardt, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Carnegie Mellon, Marymount and The New School. These young future performers will make their auspicious debut on The Town Hall stage in what has now become regarded as the country's national showcase.
