NYC: BARB JUNGR BRINGS "MAN IN A LONG BLACK COAT" TO NYC - MUSIC OF BOB DYLAN

NYC: BARB JUNGR BRINGS "MAN IN A LONG BLACK COAT" TO NYC

Celebrated singer Barb Jungr returns to NYC from London for her ninth engagement atTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) with 10 performances from October 18th through 29th. Jungr began making Dylan waves when she released her first Dylan compilation, "Every Grain of Sand," with Linn Records in 2002. As she added other American rockers to her repertoire, Jungr became a major draw in New York and internationally for credibly adding new names to the Great American Songbook. Jungr championed the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, David Byrne, Neil Diamond, Hank Williams and Elvis Presley, to name a few. She recently released a brand new compilation CD (also from Linn Records) of songs recorded since "Every Grain of Sand," with four newly recorded tracks. Jungr's live CD release U.S. tour began at THE RRAZZ ROOM in San Francisco on October 10th, before coming to New York. Accompanying Jungr on piano for her U.S. tour is the New York-based Tracy Stark. A 2008 Nightlife Award-winner (outstanding cabaret vocalist), Jungr was a fixture in London's alternative cabaret scene in the late 70's (when she was a member of the cult vocal group The Three Courgettes, and half of Jungr and Parker). She launched her solo career in 1997, and her solo recordings date back "Durga Rising" (1997) and "Bare" (1999). There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: LUCIO FERNANDEZ... LESS CUBAN THAN EVER

NYC: LUCIO ... LESS CUBAN THAN EVER

Lucio Fernandez, 2008 MAC Award nominee and winner of the ITRA Award, Star Award, and Premio ARTE Award, will be performing his new show "Lucio ... Less Cuban Than Ever" at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909). Performances are scheduled for Fridays, October 21st, 28th and November 11th, all shows at 9:00 pm. Lucio, accompanied by a nine-piece band, will be performing Broadway tunes, Latin standards, and even a few original songs. The show centers on Lucio's life story; born in Cuba, his experiences growing up in "Jersey", and eventually becoming a City Commissioner. From poverty to politics as a City Commissioner ... from playing barefoot in ditches with paper boats as a kid to singing in New York City ... this is Lucio's story. He was born in Havana, Cuba to a poor family. His mother was a seamstress and one of sixteen children. He and his mother had to leave Cuba when he was still a child due to political reasons, and because his father was a political prisoner. They lived in Spain for one year before arriving in the United States. They settled in New Jersey, where he still calls home. After graduating from Rutgers University he became a professional actor traveling the world with several Broadway shows. Increasingly becoming more socially conscious, he set out to help others, leading him to become involved with many charities, serving on many boards, and finally becoming a Commissioner for the City of Union City. In his act, "Lucio ... Less Cuban Than Ever", he discusses the challenges of being an artist while serving as a "politician". He jokes about being a Cuban-American singing Broadway tunes, and of being an artist in the world of "machismo". The show is directed by multi-MAC Award winning director Lennie Watts; musical arrangements & direction by Mark Goodman; choreography by Megan Fernandez; and written by Gerard Karabin and Fernandez. The show also features Larry Piscitelli, Amy Smith and Megan Fernandez with Alexander Diaz & Constanza Palavecino. There is a $25 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
