PALM SPRINGS, CA: KINSEY SICKS AT THE COPA

With a phenomenal performance record that includes an Off-Broadway show, an extended run in Vegas, two feature films, eight albums, and appearances throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Australia, The Kinsey Sicks perform at THE COPA (244 East Amado Road, Palm Springs CA - 760-866-0021) on Friday & Saturday, June 12th & 13th at 8:00 pm. They hardly need an introduction. For over 20 years America's Favorite Dragapella Beautyshop Quartet has served up a feast of music and comedy to audiences at performing arts centers, music venues and comedy festivals in every kind of town you can imagine, in over 40 states! Their award-winning a cappella singing, sharp satire and over-the-top drag have earned the Kinsey Sicks a diverse and devoted following. The Kinsey Sicks began in 1993 as a group of friends who went to a Bette Midler concert in San Francisco dressed as the Andrews Sisters. Assuming they'd be among many drag queens, they found themselves to be the only ones (other than Bette, of course). They were approached that night to perform at an upcoming event. Their reply - "we don't sing" - was quickly disproved when they realized that all of them had musical backgrounds. They began singing and harmonizing that night, and the seed for the Kinsey Sicks was planted. In July 1994, the Kinsey Sicks drew a large and enthusiastic crowd at their first public performance on a street corner in San Francisco's Castro District. Since then, the Kinsey Sicks have produced and performed full-length theatrical productions around the country in such prestigious venues as the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco, the Nordstrom Recital Hall in Seattle, the Broward Center in Ft. Lauderdale, the Hobby Center in Houston, the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen and the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles. In 2001, the girls produced and starred in the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway hit, "Dragapella! Starring the Kinsey Sicks" at New York's legendary Studio 54. That production received a nomination for a Lucille Lortel award (the Off-Broadway Tony) as Best Musical and a Drama Desk nomination for Best Lyrics. In 2006 the girls wowed audiences with a much-coveted extended run at the Las Vegas Hilton. The Kinsey Sicks have recorded eight albums: Dragapella, Boyz 2 Girlz, Sicks in the City, I Wanna Be a Republican, Oy Vey in a Manger: Christmas Carols and Other Jewish Music, Sicks! Sicks! Sicks! Each Hit & I, Electile Dysfunction. They have been profiled on national television, including "20/20" and "CBS Early Show with Bryant Gumbel," and were the subjects of a lengthy cover feature in the arts section of the New York Times. The Kinsey Sicks are the subjects of two feature films: a concert film, "I Wanna Be a Republican" and a behind-the-scenes documentary, "Almost Infamous," chronicling the adventure of the group's extended run at the Las Vegas Hilton. Call for cover/minimum information.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA: WESLA WHITFIELD WITH MIKE GREENSILL IN "HIGH STANDARDS"

Wesla Whitfield will appear at SOCIETY CABARET AT THE HOTEL REX (562 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94102 - 800-982-2787) with Mike Greensill in "High Standards" on Friday & Saturday, June 12th & 13th at 8:00 pm. Whitfield is a remarkable singer, known for her deep love for that rich storehouse of musical treasures often identified as The Great American Popular Songbook. Wesla has been developing her skills and learning her demanding craft for a number of years - by her own estimate, it's been ever since she "knew at age two-and-a-half that I would grow up to be a singer." Her sound and approach would seem to place her somewhere in the intriguing area that borders on both jazz and that aspect of pop music which draws its material largely from the great standards and neglected gems of such as Cole Porter and Irving Berlin and Rodgers and Hart. Wesla was born in Santa Maria, California. AS the youngest of three girls, she experienced routine childhood music training (piano lessons at age 7, sang in church, studied voice - "classical, of course" - at about age 14). She did discover her mother's extensive sheet music collection at an early age, "and used it to sight-read." Serious radio and record listening provided some important influences including Rosemary Clooney, the Hi-Los, Peggy Lee, Frankie Laine and Dean Martin. Among her earliest professional experiences was a mid-70s stint with the San Francisco Opera as a salaried chorister. Wesla, with her husband/pianist/arranger, Mike Greensill performs annually throughout the country and returned in 2007 for the 26th and final winter run in San Francisco's York Hotel Empire Plush Room. Together Mike and Wesla have opened at Michigan's Meadowbrook, New Jersey's Garden State Art Center and Flint Center in Cupertino for such notables as George Burns, Michael Feinstein and Frankie Laine. This limited engagement begins performances May 21st at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909). Performances are on Thursday through Monday, June 11th through 15th at 7:00 pm. Dr. Dan and Kitty Witless were put on ice in the Twenties, and had their entire music catalogue purloined by today's pop artists. Now the hottest act ever frozen alive is back again, with more swinging hits from their stolen songbook! There's only one problem: Kitty's "in a family way" and no one's quite sure where the kid came from. Can The Vaudevillians still put on a show while bringing up baby? Major Scales is the evil twin of Richard Andriessen, a musician, writer and performer based in Seattle. He has written everything from award-winning New York shows on the east coast to music for amateur adult films on the west. PALM SPRINGS, CA: KINSEY SICKS AT THE COPA

With a phenomenal performance record that includes an Off-Broadway show, an extended run in Vegas, two feature films, eight albums, and appearances throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Australia, The Kinsey Sicks perform at THE COPA(244 East Amado Road, Palm Springs CA - 760-866-0021) on Friday & Saturday, June 12th & 13th at 8:00 pm.
