Beginning Tuesday, October 5th and playing through Saturday, November 6th, Mr. & Mrs. Pizzarelli will offer an all-new program entitled, The Heart of a Saturday Night, a mix of familiar standards by Rodgers & Hart, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington, as well as more contemporary tunes by Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits and Jonathan Larson. Mr. Pizzarelli (guitar and vocals) will lead a quartet consisting of younger brother Martin Pizzarelli (bass), Larry Fuller (piano) and Tony Tedesco (drums). Having eclipsed recent Oak Room records with her acclaimed Cole Porter show last year, Karen Akers turns her attention and her beguiling voice to the songs of supreme melodist Richard Rodgers and bittersweet lyricist Lorenz Hart in her new show, "Dancing on the Ceiling" at THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-419-9331) on Tuesdays through Saturdays, through October 23rd. Karen will offer her vivid interpretations of the songs of a pair of native New Yorkers who found astonishing success on Broadway, London's West End and Hollywood. Among her selections are "Where or When," "Isn't It Romantic?," "Dancing on the Ceiling," "The Lady is a Tramp," "This Funny World," "Falling in Love with Love," "A Lady Must Live" and "I Could Write a Book." The show is directed by Eric Michael Gillett with Don Rebic as musical director and Dick Sarpola on bass. Marilyn Maye premieres "Her Own Kind of Broadway," highlighting the many recordings of Broadway songs she put on the charts for RCA Records at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) in a nine-show engagement. "Her Own Kind of Broadway" performs at the following times: Friday & Saturday, October 8th & 9th at 9:30 pm; Sunday, October 10th at 7:00 pm; and Tuesday through Sunday, October 12th through 17th at 7:00 pm. While under contract with RCA, Maye was the first to record Broadway songs such as "Cabaret," "Step to the Rear," "Sherry," "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" and other Broadway show songs, before the shows opened. After a recent standing-room-only performances at the famed Gardenia in Los Angeles, Pat Whiteman reprises her new cabaret act "The Mood I'm In" with one performance only on Saturday, October 9th at 7:00 pm at ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER THEATRE (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - 760-340-3220). Broadway's Jason Graae directed Ms. Whiteman's act, which is part of the Les Michaels Cabaret Concert Series, which has been running here since July and will continue through December. Erich Steinbock, Managing Director of THE CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-744-1600), is pleased to announce that the Cafe Carlyle's regular Monday night act, Woody Allen & The Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band, is, in a rare move, adding two special performances. The celebrated band will play at 8:45 pm on both Friday, October 1st and Saturday, October 2nd. Woody Allen & The Eddy Davis New Orleans Jazz Band is scheduled to play the Cafe Carlyle each Monday evening at 8:45 pm, through December 13th. These special performances will not affect the band's regularly scheduled performance on Monday, October 4th. There is a $125 cover ($85 + $25 drink minimum, bar). Dinner (served from 6:30 pm) is required. Reservations required.

Marilyn Maye premieres "Her Own Kind of Broadway," highlighting the many recordings of Broadway songs she put on the charts for RCA Records at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) in a nine-show engagement. "Her Own Kind of Broadway" performs at the following times: Friday & Saturday, October 8th & 9th at 9:30 pm; Sunday, October 10th at 7:00 pm; and Tuesday through Sunday, October 12th through 17th at 7:00 pm. While under contract with RCA, Maye was the first to record Broadway songs such as "Cabaret," "Step to the Rear," "Sherry," "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" and other Broadway show songs, before the shows opened. During her long and varied career Maye has portrayed Mame (in "Mame"), Dolly (in "Hello, Dolly"), Sally (in "Follies"), Carlotta (in "Follies") and Pistache (in "Can Can"). Rebecca Parris will be appearing Wednesday & Thursday, October 6th & 7th at 8:00 pm at RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189 - ). Ms. Parris was born in Newton, MA of a family of musicians and educators. She performed from the age of 6, mostly in musical theatre. Her parents encouraged her to pursue the study of music. She studied with world-famous vocal coach, Blair MacClosky (her uncle) and attended the Boston Conservatory. Rebecca started her professional career in music working with various top 40's bands in the Northeast. She found that she preferred singing jazz and embarked upon a career in the jazz world. Rebecca has performed all over the world with her own groups, as well as with some of jazz's greatest legends, including Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Terry Gibbs, David "Fathead" Newman, Norman Simmons. Harold Jones, Andy Simpkins, Gerry Wiggins, Bill Cunliffe, Red Mitchell, Buster Cooper, Nat Pierce, and many others. George Mesterhazy, an East coast pianist who is well known among the tight-knit casino entertainment industry, earned a Grammy nomination performing with Shirley Horn on her album Loving You. He's also recorded with jazz vocalist Rebecca Parris and performed frequently at the Cape May Jazz Festival. Mr. Mesterhazy currently collaborates with the cabaret/jazz singer Paula West. Kurt Elling, who currently reigns as the jazz world's predominant male vocalist, performs at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ) Tuesday through Saturday, October 5th through 9th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Kurt has spent the last ten consecutive years at the top of the DownBeat Critics poll and topped the JazzTimes Readers' poll five times. Elling is a nine-time Grammy Award-nominee, and his latest release for Concord/Universal, 2009's "Dedicated to You: Kurt Elling Sings the Music of Coltrane & Hartman" was his first Grammy-winning record, propelling his career to new heights. He has also won six Jazz Journalists Association Awards for Male Singer of the Year and the Prix Billie Holiday from the Acadamie du Jazz in Paris. Having eclipsed recent Oak Room records with her acclaimed Cole Porter show last year, Karen Akers turns her attention and her beguiling voice to the songs of supreme melodist Richard Rodgers and bittersweet lyricist Lorenz Hart in her new show, "Dancing on the Ceiling" at THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-419-9331 - ) on Tuesdays through Saturdays, through October 23rd. Karen will offer her vivid interpretations of the songs of a pair of native New Yorkers who found astonishing success on Broadway, London's West End and Hollywood. Among her selections are "Where or When," "Isn't It Romantic?," "Dancing on the Ceiling," "The Lady is a Tramp," "This Funny World," "Falling in Love with Love," "A Lady Must Live" and "I Could Write a Book." The show is directed by Eric Michael Gillett with Don Rebic as musical director and Dick Sarpola on bass. "Dancing on the Ceiling" will play Tuesdays through Thursdays at 8:30 pm and Friday & Saturday at 8:30 pm and 11:00 pm. There is a $60 cover per person weeknights and late shows and $65 for the early weekend shows, plus either a $30 food and beverage minimum or $60 prix fixe dinner.

Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night in October at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a $15 minimum.

Her new show will include songs from her multi-decade career including "The Music That Makes Me Dance" from her Broadway debut in Funny Girl and standards "Over the Rainbow," "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" and other selections from the Great American Songbook. Lainie Kazan is an entertainer who has taken the journey from Barbra Streisand's Broadway understudy in Funny Girl to her upcoming series of appearances on ABC-TV hit "Desperate Housewives" starting on September 26th. Along the way she visited virtually every top variety and talk show in network television, including an unparalleled 26 appearances on "The Dean Martin Show." She even hosted her own variety special for NBC and opened the popular "Lainie's Room" and "Lainie's Room East" at the Los Angeles and New York Playboy Clubs. The Carlyle Hotel (Erich Steinbock, Managing Director) is pleased to present John Pizzarelli & Jessica Molaskey, the gifted musical husband-and-wife team for a 5-week engagement in the legendary THE CAFE CARLYLE(35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-744-1600 - ). Beginning Tuesday, October 5th and playing through Saturday, November 6th, Mr. & Mrs. Pizzarelli will offer an all-new program entitled, The Heart of a Saturday Night, a mix of familiar standards by Rodgers & Hart, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington, as well as more contemporary tunes by Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits and Jonathan Larson. Mr. Pizzarelli (guitar and vocals) will lead a quartet consisting of younger brother Martin Pizzarelli (bass), Larry Fuller (piano) and Tony Tedesco (drums). John Pizzarelli & Jessica Molaskey: The Heart of a Saturday Night will play Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8:45 pm with additional shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 10:45 pm. There is an $85 music charge Tuesday through Thursday and a $95 music charge for both shows on Friday and Saturday.
