Indie singer/ songwriter/ producer Rachael Sage is honored to have caught the eye of one of music's legendary artists, Judy Collins. Collins has hand-picked Sage to perform at New York's renowned THE CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-570-7189) on Saturday, September 22nd. The 10:45 pm show by Sage will be a stand-alone concert following Collins' residency performance, which will take place earlier that evening. For Sage, a long-time New Yorker and a singer-songwriter of growing acclaim, her burgeoning relationship with an artist of Collins' stature is a dream come true. In addition to the high-profile Carlyle invitation, Collins has recently presented Sage on a series of U.S. tour dates, and an itinerary of upcoming joint appearances follows below. Starting on Saturday, September 22nd and running every Saturday night through the rest of the year, Chris can be found entertaining young and old at SAN MARTIN RESTAURANT (143 East 49th Street, NYC - 212-832-0888) between 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Chris Barrett's performances are in the tradition of the great late-night boites of a fondly remembered era, when the likes of Hugh Shannon, Bobby Short, and Buddy Barnes manned the keyboard. Chris Barrett has been performing throughout the US and in Europe since 1973. His career highlights in New York City include repeat engagements at New York's Stanhope, Carlyle, Pierre, U.N. Plaza, and Westbury Hotels. Among his engagements throughout the U.S. are the Hotel Bel-Air, L.A.; the Ritz-Carlton, Washington, DC; and the John Drew Theater, East Hampton, NY. The show showcases the musical prowess of Jazz Artist/Drummer Stix Bones. Hailing from the borough of Brooklyn, Stix received his Bachelors Degree in Jazz Performance from Purchase College, State University of New York. It was there he was given the name BONES because to his band mates he showed himself to be a Brother of Noble Excellence. Stix independently released his first full-length Smooth Jazz album entitled "Groove Like This". Frank Dain returns to the cabaret stage in September with his first solo show in 13 years, in The Magic of Mathis at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). Scheduled performances are Saturdays, September 8th & 15th and Fridays, September 21st & 28th, all shows at 7:00 pm. Dain will bring fresh interpretations to such Johnny Mathis signature tunes as "Chances Are," "It's Not for Me to Say," "Wild Is the Wind," "Misty" and "The Twelfth of Never. " Contributing creative arrangements is Dain's frequent collaborator, Musical Director Kathleen Landis. The Magic of Mathis will also include infrequently sung jewels as "99 Miles from L.A.," "Yellow Roses on Her Gown," "I'll Be Easy to Find" and "Photograph," all part of Mathis's remarkable 56-year career. Lennie Watts is directing. Saadi Zain on bass. After appearing in many regional and off-Broadway theatrical productions, Dain made his New York City Town Hall debut at The Mabel Mercer Foundation's summer Cabaret Convention entitled Grand Nights for Singing, and performed at the Foundation's first cabaret convention in Philadelphia at the Prince Theatre. Emmy-nominated musical director, conductor, arranger and jazz pianist Donn Trenner, in his first New York major engagement in 25 years, collaborates with the MAC and Bistro Award-winning jazz vocalist Shaynee Rainbolt on four Fridays in September atTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). Performances are on Fridays, September 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th, all shows at 9:30 pm. A bebop pianist of distinction Trenner played with the likes of Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, Oscar Pettiford, Charles Mingus, and Ben Webster, appearing on over 100 jazz albums from 1950 onward. A leading musical director, Trenner appeared nightly on the famed Steve Allen Show, leading the Donn Trenner Orchestra. He was also Ann-Margret's musical director for 18 years, and he worked extensively touring with Shirley MacLaine, and was musical director for Nancy Wilson. A Bistro Award winner, two-time MAC Award winner, and four-time MAC Award nominee, Shaynee's first two CD's were released on 33Jazz Records out of the UK (www.33jazz.com). Her third CD, "Charmed Life: Shaynee Rainbolt SINGS Russell Garcia," won the MAC Award for best Jazz Recording. Her most recent show honored the legendary composer/ arranger/ conductor Russell Garcia on the occasion of his 95th birthday, touring Australia, New Zealand, and the US. "Coltrane Revisited" featuring Steve Kuhn (piano), Tom Harrell (trumpet), Eric Alexander (tenor saxophone), Andrew Cyrille (drums) and Lonnie Plaxico (bass) will be presented at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) Tuesday through Saturday, September 18th through 24th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Pianist Steve Kuhn first made his mark during a brief stint with John Coltrane's quartet. He recently released a critically acclaimed ECM recording exploring Coltrane's repertoire. At Birdland, Kuhn leads an annual all-star gathering in celebration of the legendary saxophonist and jazz innovator's birthday. Born in North Carolina in 1926, John Coltrane emerged on the jazz scene in the 1950s, playing tenor and soprano sax with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. A pioneer of "hard bop" in the 1960s, he led his own groups and reinvented jazz with experimentation and improvisation, his later recordings reflecting his belief that music was a form of spiritual expression. The all-star quintet explores some of Coltrane's late 1950's hard-bop repertoire recorded for the Blue Note and Atlantic labels. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night in September at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

"Sirens of the Silver Screen," her new show which marks her debut at the club, is a personal love letter to the talented and beautiful singing ladies of Hollywood featuring songs from Doris Day, Judy Garland, Betty Hutton, Rosemary Clooney, Liza Minnelli, Marilyn Monroe, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler and Michelle Pfeiffer. Ms. Stace is backed by her New York based quartet under the direction of Musical Director and accompanist, Doug Oberhamer, Greg Chudzik on bass, David Anthony on drums and Tony Romano on guitar. Melanie Stace was first introduced to television audiences as the popular co-presenter of BBC Television's primetime flagship Saturday night program "The Generation Game," which she co-presented over a period of six years. She quickly became a household name and personality, much in demand both on TV and in theatre. During this time, she appeared on many leading entertainment TV shows, including "The Royal Variety Performance" in the presence of HRH the Prince on Wales, and amongst other honors was presented with the "Through The Keyhole" key by Sir David Frost when she appeared on the television show. On Monday, September 17th at 7:00 pm, Broadway at Birdland is proud to present multi-Grammy and Tony nominated composer Frank Wildhorn in his monthly concert series called "Frank & Friends" at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080). Joining Frank onstage will be Janet Dacal (Wonderland, In The Heights), Karen Mason (upcoming Rebecca) and James Barbour (upcoming Rebecca). The series of very special one-night-only concerts will celebrate the songs and favorite performers from the composer's wide range of work in popular, jazz, theatrical and classical music. All profits will go to THE ACTORS FUND(http://www.actorsfund.org/ ), a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in the performing arts and entertainment. Jason Howland will act as musical director. Multi-Grammy and Tony Award nominated composer/producer Frank Wildhorn's works span the worlds of popular, theatrical, and classical music. In 1999, Frank became the first American composer in 22 years to have three shows running simultaneously on Broadway: Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Civil War. Also for Broadway: Dracula, Victor/Victoria, Wonderland, and Bonnie & Clyde (Tony Award nominated for Best Score). Frank produced Harlem Song at the famed Apollo Theatre. International: Cyrano, The Count of Monte Cristo, Carmen, Rudolf, Mitsuko, Never Say Goodbye, Camille Claudel, and Tears of Heaven. Frank served as music director for the Goodwill Games in New York City (1998). He wrote the song "Gold", the opening number for the 2002 Winter Olympics. He received the prestigious Charles Dickens Award from USC, where there is a scholarship under his name. Among the artists who have recorded and performed Frank's works: Whitney Houston (#1 international hit "Where Do Broken Hearts Go?"), Natalie Cole, Kenny Rogers, Sammy Davis, Jr., Liza Minnelli, Julie Andrews, Hootie & the Blowfish, The Moody Blues, Johnny Mathis, Linda Eder, Freddie Jackson, Trisha Yearwood, Stacy Lattisaw, Molly Hatchet, Blues Traveler, Trace Adkins, Patti LaBelle, Jeffrey Osborne, BeBe Winans, Amy Grant, Anthony Warlow, to name a few, There is a $35 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
