LONDON: ALISTAIR MCGOWAN AND CHARLOTTE PAGE AT THE CRAZY COQS

Alistair McGowan is joined by his wife, actress Charlotte Page, to perform Sincerely Noel, a personally selected medley of songs and poems by Noel Coward in their debut at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888), Tuesday through Saturday, September 9th through 13th at 8:00 pm. Under the crisp direction of Brendan O'Hea and with the skilled Musical Arrangements of Warren Wills, they breathe new life into some classic Coward songs and showcase some of his more obscure work. Songs include Mad About The Boy, Never Again, I Believe, We Were Dancing and Alice Is At It Again. Poems include the touching Honeymoon 1905; the terrible sadness of Reunion in which a husband and wife realise the damage that war has done to their relationship; Social Grace, in which Coward encounters an hilariously over-enthusiastic fan and the epic 'Not yet The Dodo,' in which two upper-middle-class parents are forced to come to terms with their son's homosexuality. Alistair McGowan is probably best known for his BAFTA-winning show The Big Impression, but he has also acted with The Royal Shakespeare Company and taken lead roles in West End Musicals Cabaret and Little Shop of Horrors and in West End plays Art and Pygmalion. He was part of the BBC's hugely successful Bleak House and is also familiar to younger audiences from CBBC's drama Leonardo. Call for cover/minimum information.

LONDON: LATE NIGHT JAZZ: BEN COX AND JAMIE SAFIRUDDIN

THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888) presents Rhymes & Reasons, on Saturday, September 13th at 10:30 pm. The show is an evening of cherry picked songs from great songwriters throughout history, from Gershwin to Carole King, Cole Porter to Paul Simon and Jerome Kern to Joni Mitchell performed by two young up and coming songwriters: Ben Cox And Jamie Safiruddin. Ben Cox is an outstanding Jazz singer. He initially studied classical piano and trumpet but his love of jazz singing led him to London and his studies at Guildhall. Since moving to London he has taken his opportunities to perform with internationally acclaimed jazz musicians and is a member of the A Cappella group 'Vive', who recently performed to great acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe. Jamie Safiruddin started playing the piano at the age of 8 on a baby grand that had been a family heirloom since the start of the century. As a student he discovered the exciting electric funk and fusion of Herbie Hancock, The Yellowjackets, The Meters, Weather Report, Chick Corea and Tower of Power. From there, it was a logical step backwards to find the origins of the music in 50s and 60s American Jazz. Jamie's professional work as arranger has recently begun to develop, including several arrangements featuring on the forthcoming Cherry Ghost album. He has also toured with the legendary Paul Heaton with 'The 8th'. Call for cover/minimum information.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN: SARA GAZAREK: BLOSSOM & BEE

Sara Gazarek brings her show 'Blossom & Bee' to THE CABARET AT THE COLUMBIA CLUB (121 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN - 317-275-1169) on Friday, September 12th at 8:00 pm and Saturday, September 13th at 7:00 pm. Born and raised in Seattle, Gazarek grew up without much exposure to jazz. In her early teens she was inspired by musical theater and dance, but she ended up discovering and falling in love with the jazz choir at her high school. The director, Scott Brown, became the first of several essential musical mentors, and he started steering her towards great jazz singers/musicians and classic jazz recordings. She chose her future in her senior year, when her school band flew to New York City to compete in the Essentially Ellington Competition, hosted by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. It was the first year that the competition included a big band vocal feature, so Gazarek joined the band, and ended up walking away with the first ever Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation Vocal Soloist Award.
