NEW REVIEW BY MONA FINSTON - CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE CRITIC AT LARGE

Posted August 29, 2012 - This time, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE's Critic-at-Large reviews comic icon David Brenner's recent show at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM. When Mona was invited to review the show, she asked first if this was appropriate for a website that covers cabaret, but I reminded her, that cabaret is a not just singing - if the show is presented "cabaret style"(up close & personal) it probably is cabaret - and even more so if it is performed in a room designed for cabaret. Mona Finston's reviews appear exclusively on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website.

NYC: BETTE AND BARRY GO BACK TO THEIR ROOTS

NYC: BETTE AND BARRY GO BACK TO THEIR ROOTS

Bette Midler tribute artist Donna Maxon revisits the glorious 70s with her new cabaret show BETTE & BARRY: BACK TO THE BATHHOUSE co-written by Maxon and director Michael Schiralli atTHE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Wednesdays, August 15th & 29th at 7:30 pm. Maxon stars as the Divine Miss M, performing a hilariously bawdy act of tunes, monologues, and jokes. The show co-stars musical director Fonda Feingold as Barry Manilow, and the duo proudly pays homage to the partnership that Midler and Manilow began at New York's Continental Baths in 1970. BETTE & BARRY: BACK TO THE BATHHOUSE is a theatrical imagining of current-day Midler and Manilow returning for "one more show, for old times sake" at the legendary Continental Bathhouse. Incorporating songs from throughout both Midler's career (Wind Beneath My Wings, Delta Dawn, Friends, and more) and Manilow's (Copacabana, Looks Like We Made It, Mandy, and others), the banter between the pair touches on highlights of their career, including a touching reminiscence of friends from their bathhouse days lost to AIDS. While Maxon has a long career as a Bette Midler tribute artist, this show marks the theatrical debut of Fonda Feingold (a woman) as Barry Manilow. There is a $20 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
