SPECIAL REPORT: FOUNDERS ANNOUNCE 'BIRDS" PROJECT TO CONTINUE

---------------
FOUNDERS ANNOUNCE 'BIRDS" PROJECT TO CONTINUE
---------------
Lynne Jackson, Mike Palter & Robb Dimmick announce that with the support and encouragement of Mr. George Wein, Jill Davidson and Festival Productions, Carefusion, international music educator Jamie Aebersold and a number of jazz musicians and jazz lovers, their "BIRDS: Kids to Newport" project will take place again this year. Last year the trio accompanied an excited bus load of under-served Providence, RI, children to what was their first jazz festival. As they listened to the music and they met with the magnificent Esperanza Spaulding after her set, the glow in their eyes lit up all of Newport ... yes, even during the day!

As they promised long ago, if necessary they would start with one bus and do their best to encourage supporters to bring this once in a lifetime experience to these kids. Hopefully the days of explaining why this is so important to these children are over. This is a modest beginning, a continuing endeavor sustained by the glow in the eyes of those children. This year's "BIRDS: Kids to Newport" event will occur amidst a two-week long, historical/theatrical project, "It's a Wonderful World," celebrating the life and music of Louis Armstrong.

HERE & THERE - PART II - BLOG EDITION

---------------
I'm already in the planning stage for our CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE 20th ANNIVERSARY PARTY. Exact date, time and place to be announced. Seems a bit early to start planning, but this is going to be "the big one"! I'm planning on a 2-hour event this year with at least 18 performers instead of the usual 12-15.

Once again, tickets for 2009-2010 and any new 2010-2011 members will be at a discounted price.

---------------
I'm still seriously studying whether to continue the CABARETSINGS.COM website. While the website continues to get about 100 visitors a day, there seems to be a complete lack of interest on the part of new songwriters to join the program. Inclusion on the website only involves joining as a member at any level - so before asking the current partipants to rejoin for 2010-2011, I must come to a decision. Several songwriters listed have reported song requests/sales through the site, but with so few currently involved, I need to decide if it is all worth the effort involved.

---------------
See a show or two this week! Visit our websites! Run a banner or sidebar ad! Now - more than ever - cabaret (and CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE) needs your support. Every day, in every way, we're promoting cabaret!

Look for more news on the website ( http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/ ), on the blog ( http://cabarethotlineonline.blogspot.com/ ) and updates, picks & reminders on TWITTER ( http://twitter.com/cabarethotline ).

HERE & THERE - PART I
===============
Its a big cabaret weekend in Provincetown, MA, which is holding their PROVINCETOWN CABARET FEST - check out the complete schedule of shows and other cabaret events that start on Friday, the 16th through Sunday night, the 18th! The weekend even includes a CD release event by Patricia Fitzpatrick, who gets down to NYC once or twice a year to perform at DON'T TELL MAMA!

---------------
There are several news items in today's issue that aren't in the listings section - I hope you check them out. Included is an announcement of the first MELBOURNE (AUS) CABARET FESTIVAL scheduled for July. Yesterday, the ADELAIDE (AUS) CABARET FESTIVAL (June 11th through 26th - see http://www.adelaidefestivalcentre.com.au/adelaidecabaret/ ) had it's official opening of ticket sales. David Campbell, who is the Artistic Director was on hand to announce the events - he's well known to US Cabaret & Broadway fans. He has once again tried to put together a program that inspires, excites and leaves the audience wanting more. From the students who are discovering and performing the joys of the art form of Cabaret for the first time in High School Cabaret, to the jaw dropping journey that is Smoke & Mirrors. Check out their website for complete information.

You can support CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE by supporting our advertisers! New ads have been hard to come by lately, but a few came in during the week that truly helped us get by until the Social Security check arrived. I was able to re-connect my cell phone (which was out for nearly a month) and restock my "larder" - and even get a haircut! Now, hopefully, I will have some funds to get out to some cabaret shows. And soon we will begin accepting 2010-2011 memberships - the membership program is our major fundraiser, and is climaxed by our annual CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BIRTHDAY PARTY - this year a really big one: our 20th! Date & place are still to be decided - our official birth date is July 6th (it coincides with my own birthday, since our very first issue was sent out to about 40 folks by regular mail reporting on my birthday cabaret activities in 1990. We announced the new membership rates to our members last Friday in our MEMBERS ONLY issue, and to everyone in today's issue in Part II of HERE & THERE below.

---------------
We couldn't afford to go the the BISTRO AWARDS on Tuesday, the 13th at THE GOTHAM COMEDY CLUB, but word is that the event was sold out once again this year. Congratulations once again to all the award recipients. Be sure to "save the date"for the 24th Annual MAC Awards which will be held Tuesday, May 4th at 7:30 PM at BB KING'S BLUES CLUB (237 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-997-4144). Some details below, but tickets are already one sale. It sold out last year (over 600 seats sold) so if you plan to attend, I advise early purchase. MAC reports that they are almost sold out of the $75 Silver Circle Tickets and can no longer accept mail orders for this price level (a few tickets remain at this price level on the Brown Paper Tickets website). Tickets may be ordered online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/101011 .

---------------
A few issues back we announced that BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) and MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) would be holding a joint event in May. However, BACA President Eric Larivee reported today that they are postponing the BACA Goes to NYC Field Trip to the weekend of October 8th, 9th and 10th. This will coincide with the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention. This will give people more to time to save the necessary funds in order to take part in this unprecedented, invaluable BACA/MAC educational and recreational meet and greet opportunity.

MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II - BLOG EDITION

===============
MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II
===============
We were planning to mail out our special 2010 MAC AWARD STRAW POLL - which is really a contest and not a vote - to current members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE yesterday, but got caught up in some extra web work and had to postpone it to today. The person(s) who most accurately predict the most award winners will be sent a set of 6 cabaret CDs (the award will be divided if more than one winner results.) We will only be choosing on the top categories.

---------------
We are not soliciting 2009-2010 members for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE since we're getting set for our new 2010-2011 CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE Membership Year which begins on July 6, 2010 (the date of the first issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE). The new memberships will be available on May 5th - anyone joining between now and then will be sent a membership card listing the new year. In the light of the current financial problems here in the US (and elsewhere except maybe China) we are establishing new rates and membership levels - starting at just $5! Full details were sent to current members in the MEMBER'S ONLY newsletter last week, and will be posted on the website shortly.

---------------
We're already in the planning stage for our CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE 20th ANNIVERSARY PARTY. Exact date, time and place to be announced. Seems a bit early to start planning, but its just a little over 3 months away, and this is going to be "a big one"! We're planning on a 2-hour event this year with at least 18 performers instead of the usual 12-15.

Once again, tickets for 2009-2010 and any new 2010-2011 members will be at a discounted price.

---------------
We're seriously studying whether to continue the CABARETSINGS.COM website.

It's another big week for cabaret! This weekend the PROVINCETOWN CABARET FEST takes place, Friday through Sunday; the BISTRO AWARDS GALA takes place tomorrow night, and several CABARET BENEFIT event are taking place (NYC, S.F. & N.C). We're happy to report that Joni Rapp will be covering the Provincetown events on our behalf - we look forward to her writeup early next week.

---------------
There has finally been some closure on the report we had last week about Ryan J. Ritzel, son of former MAC Board of Director's President Ricky Ritzel, who went missing while swimming in Hawaii on Tuesday, April 6th. Ryan's body was recovered yesterday about 100 yards downstream from where Ryan was last seen swimming. There has been an outpouring of condolence messages on the internet for Ricky and family on this tragedy, which of course we join. Here is a link to the story in yesterday's STAR BULLETIN - the local newspaper in Ryan's home town: http://www.starbulletin.com/news/breaking/90580474.html

---------------
We're still tingling with excitement from the sold-out CALLING ALL ANGELS benefit of last week Saturday afternoon at THE LAURIE BEECHMAN. We don't have a tally on the total funds raised on behalf of Gregory Kennell, but preliminary reports suggest that over $5000 was raised. The show was fantastic - everyone taking part had a connection to Mr. Kennell, who is a former member of the MAC Board of Directors, and over the years designed fliers, advertisements and logos (including the logo for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE) for performers, organizations and clubs. A video was also shown delivering a personal message from Gregory. Congratulations to everyone who took part in the event, with a special acknowledgement to the LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER which donated the room free of charge! And hats off to musical director Tracy Stark who filled in at the last minute when the original musical director has to drop out.

For those who could not attend and would like to make a donation to help, please make checks payable to Geri Malino mailed them directly to Geri Malino at 54 West 16th Street, Ste. 16C, New York, NY 10011.

100% of the proceeds are going to provide extra care and therapy to Greg, and ongoing therapeutic process necessary to help hom regain motor skills and return to a normal life after almost two months in a coma at St. Vincent's Hospital as a result of demyelinating encephalitis and related consequences. Miraculously, Greg has recently regained the ability to communicate with limited speech. However, he remains paralyzed and confined to St. Elizabeth Ann's Health Care & Rehabilitation Facility on Staten Island where he receives minimal rehabilitation therapy.
