IT'S ABOUT YOUR VOICE - IT'S ABOUT SINGING - IT'S ABOUT PASSION - IT'S ABOUT ITALY

You are invited to join The Tuscany Project this summer for an nine-day exploration of the power of the human voice. Deepen the strength of your own voice through song, vocal exploration and movement. For the 22nd year, The Tuscany Project is gathering in the lush green hills of Umbria for this intimate and intensive learning experience. Participants come from all walks of life and all corners of the globe. Sing, discover new friendships, and experience Italy and La Dolce Vita. Blending group and optional solo work, the project focuses on each person's individual growing edge and personal connection with voice and song. Adult singers of all levels are welcome, from professional to beginner. Prerequisites are a passion for music and singing and the courage to take risks. The Tuscany Project (named for the region were the workshops started) is held in a beautifully restored 12th century villa, Locanda del Gallo, in the green heartland of Umbria. As you explore the music within you, you will also have the chance to take walks in the rolling hills, swim in the breathtaking "infinity pool" perched over the beautiful neighboring valley, breathe in the ever-present scent of lavender and rosemary, and revive yourself with abundant, freshly prepared organic foods, served al fresco! TORONTO: BROADSWAY AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

Two award-winning Jazz singers, a Dora Award-nominated music director, and an array of music as wide as the smiles of their audience members' faces all combine to create: "BROADSWAY" which will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, March 27th through 29th at 9:00 pm. Heather Bambrick, Diane Leah, and Julie Michels are all very busy women, working in a number of projects and musical genres. It's this degree of exciting musical energy that brought them together, and helped them create a show that is eclectic, funny, and very, very musical. "Broadsway" was born when the ladies found themselves together on stage one night and discovered their mutual love of Broadway music. Julie and Heather (also host of "Wake Up - " on JAZZ.FM91) are both acclaimed jazz performers, and Diane is a Dora Mavor Moore Award nominated Music Director, pianist and arranger. Their combined experience brings together Broadway music, pop sensibility, the improvisation of Jazz, and their unique senses of humour. Performance highlights include their debut "Leading Ladies" concert, repeat shows at The Global Cabaret Festival, the COC Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre series, the Thursday Night Jazz Party at the Home Smith Bar, and several corporate appearances. Drawing heavily on influences such as: Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Hiromi Uehara, Oscar Peterson, and Phineas Newborn while studying under the tutelage of legendary pianists such as Mark Eisenman, Brian Dickesnon, Richard Whiteman, Robi Botos, and Hilario Duran it's no secret where Patrick developed his unique, high-octane style that still clearly adheres to the art forms tradition. One way to attack the daunting task of describing Stanley Jordan is to think of him as a world class guitarist who marches in all aspects of his life to the beat of his own drummer. Never one to be locked into constraints when it comes to musical expression, genres or applications, the Palo Alto, California-born prodigy is a progressive thinker with goals and ideals that stretch far beyond record deals, fortune or fame. Besides being a technical innovator on the guitar whose "touch" or "tapping" technique allows him to sound like two or three guitarists at the same time with no overdubs or other studio techniques, Stanley Jordan also plays music with an uncommon depth of feeling. Call for cover/minimum information.

MARYLAND: RALPH STANLEY & THE CLINCH MOUNTAIN BOYS

Now 86 years old, Stanley has been performing professionally since he and his older brother, Carter, formed a band in their native southwestern Virginia in 1946. Between that date and 1966, when Carter died, the Stanley Brothers and the Clinch Mountain Boys became one of the most celebrated bluegrass groups in the world, rivaling in popularity such titans as Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs. Ralph Stanley's voice is not of this century. Nor of the last one, for that matter. Its stark emotional urgency is rooted in a darker time, when pain was the common coin of life and the world offered sinful humanity no hope of refuge. Preserved in the cultural amber of remote Appalachia, this terse, forlorn sound is the bedrock of Stanley's inimitable style. But don't mistake an ancient voice for ancient ways. Stanley tours and performs with the vigor and elan of a rock star. There is a $30 cover.

Anne Reid, one of Britain's most-loved and respected actors, will perform at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888) on Tuesday through Saturday, March 25th through 29th at 8:30 pm. Anne was the star of the very popular Last Tango in Halifax, Ladies of Letters, Dinnerladies and Coronation Street. What is less well known is her life as a cabaret performer. Following her sell out debut shows at The Crazy Coqs in 2013, she returns with her show IN A NEW KEY, a beautifully crafted programme of song, nostalgia and humour. Telling backstage stories of the vagaries of touring, meeting the Royal family, playing in Dr Who with David Tennant and describing the eccentricities of her fellow performers, Anne sings songs and ballads from a varied assortment of songwriters ranging from Billy Joel, Don McLean, Stephen Sondheim, Sheldon Harnick and Diana Morgan, all the way to Hoagy Carmichael, and Johnny Mercer. Ever since she was memorably electrocuted by a hair dryer in the early days of Coronation Street, Anne Reid has been a familiar figure to audiences everywhere in her many roles on television, stage and screen. Only recently has she branched out into musicals, with roles in Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods at the Royal Opera House and Cole Porter's Out of This World in Chichester. Reid, whose voice is perhaps more Mary Martin than Ethel Merman, is as versatile a cabaret artist as she is an actress and with timing that is the equal of any stand-up comic's. Anne is accompanied by her musical director and award-winning pianist Stuart Hutchinson. Call for cover/minimum information.

D.C.: STANLEY JORDAN AT BLUES ALLEY

Stanley Jordan will perform atBLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, March 27th through 30th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm.

MARYLAND: NICK MOSS - ALBUM RELEASE TOUR

Nick Moss will celebrate the release of his latest CD atBETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Thursday, March 27th at 7:30 pm. Moss picked up the electric bass at the urging of his brother Joe. He learned to love the gritty Chicago blues of the 1970s while playing with real deal bluesmen, first as one of Buddy Scott's Rib Tips, then with Jimmy "Fast Fingers" Dawkins. He mastered the sub•tleties of golden-age postwar electric blues with the Legendary Blues Band of Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, where he exchanged his bass for the guitar, and later spent three years as guitarist with the great Jimmy Rogers. These apprenticeships served him well when he started his own band, Nick Moss and the Flip Tops. The growth in his vision achieved over the arc of seven genuinely authentic blues albums, recognized by a total of 16 BMA nominations. It seemed reasonable for a restless artist, with nothing left to prove to purists, to wonder what other styles he could explore. There is a $20 cover.
