NYC: MARY FOSTER CONKLIN FRIDAYS AT A MOSCOW 57

Jazz/ cabaret vocalist Mary Foster Conklin performs on Friday nights at MOSCOW57 ON DELANCEY (168 1/2 Delancey Street, NYC - 212-260-5775) at 8:00 pm. The club celebrated its one year anniversary on the corner where Loisaida meets the Williamsburg Bridge. Mary sings a short set every Friday, with Ethan Fein on guitar and Benjamin Franklin Brown on bass. Conklin has appeared in theatres, jazz clubs, cabarets and even fire escapes in the metropolitan New York area and throughout the United States and Canada. A New Jersey native who came to New York to pursue theatre work, her transformation from actor to jazz singer began when she joined drummer/composer Art Lillard's 15-piece Heavenly Band and her song selections naturally shifted from show tunes to blues, Latin and bebop. As a leader, her sets are a mix of contemporary material and standards, with an emphasis on the lesser known treasures of the Great American Songbook. In New York, Conklin's talents have earned her a place on the stages of The Blue Note, Zinc Bar, Iridium, Birdland, Jazz at the Kitano, the Metropolitan Room and the Triad Theatre. She can also be seen from time to time singing off various fire escapes as The Lady in the Red Dress with the Renegade Cabaret. Her recent project, LIFE IS A BITCH - a tribute to poet/lyricist Fran Landesman, (best known for "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" and "The Ballad of the Sad Young Men") has been praised by audiences and critics aloke. On the West Coast she has performed in Los Angeles at the In House Jazz Series, Vitello's, the Gardenia and the Jazz Bakery. She has appeared in Chicago at the Cultural Center and in Palm Beach, Florida at the Royal Room. Ms. Conklin was awarded the 2010 MAC Award for Jazz Vocalist by MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets). Her debut CD, Crazy Eyes, won the 1999 Bistro Award presented by Backstage Magazine for Outstanding Recording. Her second recording, You'd Be Paradise, was released in September 2001 to critical acclaim, worldwide airplay and was a jazz bestseller for two years on www.CDBaby.com. Several years ago, what began as a simple quest for some lesser known Matt Dennis material (she recorded "Everything Happens to Me" on her second CD) quickly became an all-out obsession. She began her search at the Library of Congress, then teamed up with Los Angeles singer/songwriter Mark Winkler to present a bi-coastal tribute to the music of Matt Dennis and Bobby Troup. Her recording, Blues For Breakfast - Remembering Matt Dennis (Rhombus Records) is a collection of songs by the late Matt Dennis, best known for his hits "Angel Eyes" and "Violets for your Furs". She is currently at work on a new recording. Call for cover/minimum information.

NYC: JOSEPHINE SANGES: A BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

After launching her second album, Color Me Blue, she made her solo cabaret debut at the Met last November with a follow up show six weeks later, each time playing to sold out houses. No stranger to the concert stage, she has performed in concert with "America's Beloved Tenor" Daniel Rodriguez, and opened for such well known singers as famed Irish tenor, Ronan Tynan. I HAVE ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING TO SHARE TODAY

I HAVE ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING TO SHARE TODAY.

Consider this a personal invitation to attend the special celebration of the 25th Anniversary of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE next week Tuesday, July 7th, at 7:00 pm at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - http://www.metropolitanroom.com/ ). The cover is just $20 (plus 2 drink minimum) and you can reserve right now at

http://metropolitanroom.com/event.cfm?id=199724&cart

I would love to see you on the 7th - especially since I will be celebrating my 76th Birthday on Monday, July 6th - back in 1990, the very first issue of CABARET HOTLINE (a printed issue of about 30 copies, sent to my "Christmas List") was sent relating the cabaret / piano bar events I attended celebrating my 51st birthday! Now we send out over 3000 copies a week via e-mail!

I was hoping to make it an extra grand affair but just as I started planning, my landlord (he owns the condo I rent a room in) notified me that he was selling the condo and I needed to move. I was set to forgo a celebration this year, when Bernie Furshpan (Managing Partner at the METROPOLITAN ROOM) and cabaret event producer/ performer Sue Matsuki heard the news, they stepped forward and offered to produce the event.

Bernie & Sue chose the cast - they are selling the tickets through the MET ROOM website - and handling all the many details of putting on such an event. Now we need to fill the room!

Here is a partial list of performers:

Hosted by Bernie Furshpan
Musical Direction: Tracy Stark
Raissa Katona Bennett (July 7th is also Raissa's Birthday!)
Bruce Clough
Cynthia Crane
Sammy Goldstein
Kevin Scott Hall (July 6th is also Kevin's Birthday)
Loli Marquez-Sterling
Sue Matsuki
Carolyn Montgomery
Warren Schein
Marcus Simeone
and more TBA.
Guest Speakers & More Cast Members & Surprises TBA!

Please come! It means a lot to me - and it means a lot to the wonderful performers who are taking part and Sue & Bernie, who are putting so much effort into this event.

But the biggest reason I hope you can make it is that this might be the last special CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE GALA EVENT we hold - advertising income keeps falling, membership numbers keep dropping, expenses keep rising - and if I don't find a new affordable place to live, I may be forced to relocate out of NYC. (I do pledge to keep CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE going for another year to fulfill my membership obligations to the 2015-16 members - but I am seriously considering not accepting any new 1-year memberships after July 31st.
