NYC: JACKIE BEAT: SONGS I REALLY CAN'T SING ANYMORE!

THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) presents 'Jackie Beat: Songs I Really Can't Sing Anymore!' on Saturday, September 6th at 7:00 pm. Featuring topical song parodies long past their expiration dates, the show is a bawdy blast from the past, a fierce & fabulous flashback of fun. How sad were you when the canceled Jenny Jones' talk show? When J.Lo and Ben Affleck broke up? When the SARS outbreak was finally under control? Or when they stopped putting Olean in snack foods? Not as sad as Jackie -- because she had to stop singing some of her favorite songs. Add a catchy little ditty about the world ending in 2012, plus an ode to Osama Bin Laden and you have Jackie Beat: Songs I Really Can't Sing Anymore! But don't worry, the evening offers plenty of annotation for those with early onset Alzheimer's, the pop-culture challenged, or those with birthdays after 1985. Call for cover/minimum information.

NYC: JONNY WOO: GLITTER IN THE GROOVE

After an acclaimed debut in March, London alternative drag superstar Jonny Woo returns to New York with Glitter In The Groove at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE(407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Saturday, September 5th at 9:30 pm. Wonderfully unpredictable and hilariously anarchic, Woo is the creme de la creme of British 'alternative' drag. Mixing tongue twisters, rap and spoken word with original satirical and personal songs and the occasional indulgent lip-sync. With Glitter In The Groove, Woo explains how a county lad got to rule London's nightlife via a drag education on New York's Lower East Side. Expect new songs as well as a reprise of showstoppers such as his one man 'Les Mis', his club hit 'F*ggot' and his anthem to a decade in drag, 'Glitter In The Groove'. Call for cover/minimum information.

NYC: LYNN HENDERSON'S "IF WE ONLY HAVE LOVE" CD AVAILABLE

Lynn Henderson's memories as a singer date back to grade school when she wore out a recording of "It's Magic" singing along with Doris Day. Throughout her life, singing has been her passion. From big band vocalist to saloon singer to Handel soloist to cabaret singer, it has all been a joy! The chapters of her life from single New Yorker to wife, mom, equestrienne, businesswoman, divorcee and world traveler all contribute to her selection of songs that speak to me. Life has given Lynn a finer appreciation of great songs and a deeper understanding of what the extraordinary musical poets are telling us. Welcome to Lynn's world!

Lynn's new CD, titled "If We Only Have Love", was released on September 15, 2014. Since enjoying these songs with her audiences and wonderful musicians over the last couple of years at the Metropolitan Room in New York City and all over CT., Lynn has been encouraged to share them with a larger audience.

You can purchase the CD at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/lynnhenderson2

NYC: JACKIE BEAT: SONGS I REALLY CAN'T SING ANYMORE!

THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) presents 'Jackie Beat: Songs I Really Can't Sing Anymore!' on Friday, September 4th at 7:00 pm.

The show is based on his acclaimed debut album, The Real Me, produced by Gary Katz, of Steely Dan fame. The album, which was named Best CD: Male Artist from the LA Music Critic Awards, has scored two consecutive Top 5 adult contemporary hits. The unique concept of the album was to take hidden gems from the today's top songwriters and give them a new life ... a new breed of standards, from the deliciously jazzy simplicity of Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue," to the cool, sexy rhythms of Tom Waits' "Temptation." When the live show was being developed it became apparent that the songs took on new meaning, each representing personal chapters in a story of overcoming illness, adversity, and dreams delayed but not denied. The stories are seamlessly woven around the songs and all backed by an all-star band. The show is fun, moving, and inspirational, with a few added surprises to pay homage to 54 Below and Broadway. Shana's prior cabaret shows, BOHOUPTOWNGRL; My Life on Display for a Date, and Spaghetti and Matzah Balls both had successful runs in the theater district, and she is thrilled to take the mic at 54 Below. Music Direction by Adam Michael Tilford. There is a $20-$45 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

The result: a new album she calls The Lagos Music Salon released in August 2014 as her major label debut on Sony Music/Okeh - landing at #1 on US Jazz charts. The album, which features special guests Angelique Kidjo, Common and Ambrose Akinmusire, draws it material from the tropical city's boastful cosmopolitanism, urgent inspiration, and giant spirit - straddling the worlds of African jazz, soul, and pop with a newfound ease and a voice that Vogue Magazine simply calls "Superb!" Born in Illinois to immigrants from Rwanda and Uganda, the African and Jazz legacies are always crucial to her sound. There is a $30 cover.
