NYC: JACKIE BEAT: SONGS I REALLY CAN'T SING ANYMORE!
THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) presents 'Jackie Beat: Songs I Really Can't Sing Anymore!' on Friday, September 4th at 7:00 pm. Featuring topical song parodies long past their expiration dates, the show is a bawdy blast from the past, a fierce & fabulous flashback of fun. How sad were you when the canceled Jenny Jones' talk show? When J.Lo and Ben Affleck broke up? When the SARS outbreak was finally under control? Or when they stopped putting Olean in snack foods? Not as sad as Jackie -- because she had to stop singing some of her favorite songs. Add a catchy little ditty about the world ending in 2012, plus an ode to Osama Bin Laden and you have Jackie Beat: Songs I Really Can't Sing Anymore! But don't worry, the evening offers plenty of annotation for those with early onset Alzheimer's, the pop-culture challenged, or those with birthdays after 1985. Call for cover/minimum information.

NYC: FRANK SHINER, THE REAL ME LIVE TOUR CONTINUES
After a series of successful sold-out shows, Frank Shiner makes his third triumphant return to
54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Friday, September 4th at 7:00 pm - where The Real Me Live Tour originated. The show is based on his acclaimed debut album, The Real Me, produced by Gary Katz, of Steely Dan fame. The album, which was named Best CD: Male Artist from the LA Music Critic Awards, has scored two consecutive Top 5 adult contemporary hits. The unique concept of the album was to take hidden gems from the today's top songwriters and give them a new life ... a new breed of standards, from the deliciously jazzy simplicity of Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue," to the cool, sexy rhythms of Tom Waits' "Temptation." When the live show was being developed it became apparent that the songs took on new meaning, each representing personal chapters in a story of overcoming illness, adversity, and dreams delayed but not denied. The stories are seamlessly woven around the songs and all backed by an all-star band. The show is fun, moving, and inspirational, with a few added surprises to pay homage to 54 Below and Broadway.
