NYS: FORT SALEM THEATER HOSTS TOTIE FIELDS MUSICAL

NYS: FORT SALEM THEATER HOSTS TOTIE FIELDS MUSICAL

The MAINSTAGE AT FORT SALEM THEATER (11 East Broadway, Salem, NY - 518-854-9200) presents a two-week run of the hit off-Broadway musical, Adorable Me! The Totie Fields Story, starring Nancy Timpanaro-Hogan, Fridays at 8:00 pm, and Saturdays & Sundays at 2:00 & 8:00 p, August 3rd through 5th and 10th through 12th. Timpanaro-Hogan is an award-winning singer and comic who had a meteoric rise in the Manhattan and international cabaret worlds in the mid-eighties and nineties, when she starred in Tony n' Tina's Wedding and regularly opened for Joan Rivers. While she was working for other people, she decided to create a vehicle for herself, and turned to the woman who had inspired her, a "large kid" from Mechanicville, New York, that there was a place for someone who was not the conventional picture of beauty in a business where appearance is everything. While Phyllis Diller, Fields' contemporary who also helped break the glass ceiling for female comics in the sixties, capitalized on her struggle for liberation from the oppression of "Fang," her husband, Totie Fields, like generations of male stand-ups before her, capitalized simply on being herself. So ten years after the large kid from Mechanicville took her larger-than-life voice and quick tongue to the Big Apple, she was researching the life of the ground-breaking female comic who died in 1978 at the age of forty-eight.
