FINAL CALL FOR CABARET FOR SENIORS
A few months ago we began offering a new service for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE members over 65. The program includes a special newsletter, every other week, listing special cabaret offers, special news and tips and tricks for seniors. Also included was an extra year extension on their membership - current 2009-2010 members who joined would receive a 2010-2011 membership free. However, to make the program worthwhile, we needed at least 50 members to join, but to date less than 35 members have chosen to take advantage of the program. So, unless we reach that goal by December 31, 2009, the program will be discontinued. Those already in the program will have their membership extended as promised even if the rest of the program is discontinued. Check out the home page at CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for a link to details on how to become a member of CABARET FOR SENIORS. Note: membership in CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is required for this special service. If the goal is not reached, on December 26th the special section will be removed from the website, and the final CABARET FOR SENIORS newsletter will be sent on that date as well.
DISCOUNTED TICKETS TO "RAGTIME - The Musical"
In the newsletter listings we have many shows that are offering discounted tickets to subscribers and members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, and here's another one - not actually a cabaret show, but an actual Broadway show (thanks to the work of one of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE's "angels", Jamie deRoy). Direct from a sold-out extended run at the Kennedy Center, RAGTIME The Musical has returned to Broadway's NEIL SIMON THEATER (250 West 52nd Street, NYC) in an acclaimed new production as ravishing as relevant. RAGTIME weaves together three distinctly American tales: that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician, united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Their compelling stories are set to a glorious, Tony Award-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. Based on the classic E.L. Doctorow novel, RAGTIME also features an extraordinary, Tony Award-winning book by Terrence McNally, direction and choreography by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, a majestic 28-piece orchestra and a vibrant cast of 40. Here's the deal: go to http://www.Ticketmaster.com or call 877-250-2929 and use code BWW129 and save 45% on shows through January 15, 2010. (you can also use this code when purchasing tickets at the box office - Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm or Sunday 12:00 to 6:00 pm).
AUSTRALIAN AWARD WINNER AT THE DUPLEX DECEMBER 22nd
I am sure you have noticed my frequent mentions of THE BUTTERFLY CLUB in Melbourne, AUS in the newsletters. Well, first off, they are the only Australian cabaret room to send me detailed monthly schedules. But secondly, nearly all of the shows presented there are so eclectic and original, I just enjoy adding them to the newsletter each issue. To quote from their mailings: "While we welcome all forms of cabaret, we favor those that reflect the style of performance for which cabaret was originally created - shows that satirize or reflect contemporary life and enlighten audiences, presented in an intimate environment." A far cry from the "cookie-cutter" shows we so often see here in NYC!
I bring this up because you will have a chance to see first hand, here in NYC, the type of show presented at THE BUTTERFLY on Tuesday, December 22nd at THE DUPLEX when 2009 Under Our Wing award winner Tom Dickens brings his acclaimed show "Where Was I?" to town. I've got my seats reserved and I hope a lot of you take this chance to catch one of the best from Australia.

NYC: TIM DICKENS BRINGS AUSTRALIAN HIT SHOW TO THE DUPLEX
---------------
After a knockout headline season at the 2009 Melbourne Fringe Festival, and two sold-out runs at Melbourne's famed BUTTERFLY CLUB, 2009 Under Our Wing award winner Tom Dickins brings his acclaimed show "Where Was I?" to LA, San Francisco, Seattle, New York and Boston. The New York show will be on one night only at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 1-212-255-5438) on Tuesday, December 22nd at 7:00 pm. In his semi-autobiographical, fully fantastical cabaret, "Where Was I?" Tom Dickins runs, stumbles and stalls on a scattered trip around the world, in search of answers to the question: "Are you running away from something - or toward it?" Tom runs to and from love, identity, sex, debt, the South Korean National Male Cheerleading Squad and a myriad of mad travelers, accompanied by travelling companion, anima, and 'ravishing redhead' Jennifer Kingwell on piano. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

MEMORIAL SERVICE SATURDAY FOR EARL WENTZ
A memorial service for Earl Wentz, creator of the American Composer Series, will be held in New York on Saturday, December 19th at 2:00 pm at JOHN STREET UNITED METHODIST CHURCH (44 John Street, NYC). The composer, performer, arranger, and noted teacher of vocal performance and technique passed away at his home in Charlotte, NC on Sunday, November 15, 2009, following an extended illness. Wentz had been the organist and choirmaster at John Street Methodist Church in New York since 1993. The Rev. Jason Radmacher of John St. Church will preside. The one-hour recording of Wentz’s 1989 Requiem, featuring full orchestra, 30-voice choir, and four prominent New York soloists will be played at the funeral service, which is open to the public.
In New York, Wentz created the American Composer Series, an ongoing performance series in the cabaret format, paying tribute to the greatest composers of popular American music on the American scene, particularly those composers associated with Tin Pan Alley and the American Songbook. From 2000 to 2009, the series presented 15 original musical revues, many returning for multiple performances over several seasons (see http://www.americomps.com/ ).
Also, Earl's Christmas CD is available at http://www.sixpenceinc.com/ChristmasCD.html
