This year marks the 30th anniversary of the L.A. JAZZ SOCIETY - be aware their website is slightly out of date). On Sunday, May 5th the L.A. Jazz Society will officially kick off the celebration with a cocktail party and viewing of the newly restored jazz mural on the side of the iconic Capitol Records building in Hollywood. It was Jazz Society founder, Teri Merrill-Aarons who originally commissioned the mural created by artist Richard Wyatt in 1990. Wyatt and his artists will attend the party at THE LEXINGTON SOCIAL HOUSE RESTAURANT (1718 Vine Street, Hollywood, CA - 323-461-1700 - ). The restaurant is located across the street from Capitol Records. Palm Springs entertainer Les Michaels will launch a new show at AJ'S ON THE GREEN RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE (36200 Date Palm Drive, Cathedral City, CA - 760-202-1111). Cabaret On The Green will take place on Saturdays in May from 7:30 to 10:00 pm. Dinner reservations for tables in the main room are highly advised or open seating is available in the lounge. Overlooking a lake at the Date Palm Country Club, AJ's is an ideal location for live entertainment with seating for 140 and a baby grand piano that will be played by Joel Baker who has worked along side Les for nearly four years and is considered 'a singer's best friend' for his ability to accompany them in any style but mostly Standards, Jazz, Broadway, and The Great American Songbook. The Michel CamiloTrio (with Michel Camilo, piano; Lincoln Goines, bass;Cliff Almond, drums) will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) Tuesday through Sunday, April 30th through May 5th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. A pianist with a brilliant technique and a composer that flavors his tunes with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, Michel Camilo's musical language is an expressive combination of his Dominican Republic musical heritage and a rich, intelligent use of jazz harmonies and textures. Camilo composed his first piece at age five then studied at the National Conservatory for thirteen years. At age sixteen, he became a member of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic. Mr. Camilo's recordings and compositions have earned him numerous awards including Grammy awards, Grammy nominations, and Emmy awards. His compositions have been performed by some of the top jazz and Latin jazz artists on the scene today including Manhattan Transfer and Paquito D'Rivera. There is a $20 cover.

Bistro Award and MAC Award winner Stacy Sullivan returns to the New "East Side Late Nights" Music Series at THE CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-570-7189 - ) with "It's a Good Day: A Tribute to Miss Peggy Lee" on Thursday through Saturday, May 2nd through 4th at 10:45 pm. She is joined by her musical director Jon Weber with Steve Doyle on bass. Peggy Lee was a Grammy-winning, defining voice of jazz and the American Songbook, and a composer/lyricist of note. In her long career, Ms. Lee penned the score for Disney's "Lady and the Tramp" as well as music and/or lyrics for "Black Coffee," "It's a Good Day," "The Shining Sea," "I Love Being Here With You" and many, many more. Ms. Sullivan has just returned from a sold out engagement at the London club, The Crazy Coqs where she performed this show to rave reviews. There is a $30 cover plus a $40 food/drink minimum.

Mixing Broadway with pop, childhood favorites with contemporary sounds, and superstar vocals with charismatic good looks, Tveit's cabaret debut will have them talking for years. Broadway/Concert/Cabaret icon Barbara Cook will perform at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) Tuesday through Friday, April 23rd through May 4th. Showtimes are 7:00 pm on Tuesdays; 7:00 & 9:30 pm on Wednesdays & Thursdays; and 8:30 pm on Fridays & Saturdays. Her pure soprano, haunting tone, and warm onstage presence make any evening with Barbara Cook an unforgettable nightlife experience. Not only are Ms. Cook's concert and cabaret performances the stuff of New York legend, but her life in the theatre has stretched from the creation of the leading female roles in the Broadway classics Candide, The Music Man, and She Loves Me, to her recent appearance in Sondheim on Sondheim, and a whole lot in between! The Michel CamiloTrio (with Michel Camilo, piano; Lincoln Goines, bass;Cliff Almond, drums) will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) Tuesday through Sunday, April 30th through May 5th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. A pianist with a brilliant technique and a composer that flavors his tunes with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, Michel Camilo's musical language is an expressive combination of his Dominican Republic musical heritage and a rich, intelligent use of jazz harmonies and textures. Camilo composed his first piece at age five then studied at the National Conservatory for thirteen years. At age sixteen, he became a member of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic. Mr. Camilo's recordings and compositions have earned him numerous awards including Grammy awards, Grammy nominations, and Emmy awards. His compositions have been performed by some of the top jazz and Latin jazz artists on the scene today including Manhattan Transfer and Paquito D'Rivera. There is a $20 cover.

Jonathan Whitton (Bistro & MAC Award Winner, HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH) continues his critically lauded concert residency with guitarist Aaron Jones atDON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) with his new show BLACK SHEEP CARNIVAL. Performances are once a month through 2013 with initial dates scheduled for Fridays, May 3rd & June 7th at 7:30 pm and Mondays, July 8th & August 5th at 7:30 pm. BLACK SHEEP CARNIVAL draws on song selections from his critically acclaimed, sold-out 2012 concert series, THE FREE RESIDENCY, amongst a plethora of new material which will change throughout the residency. Musical selections for BLACK SHEEP CARNIVAL include songs from an eclectic group of contemporary musicians including Kate Bush, Michael Callen, Amy Correia, Kate McGarrigle, Patty Griffin, Sufjan Stevens, John Vanderslice, & Rufus Wainwright. Celebrated for headlining both the Highline Ballroom & BB King Blues Club as Hedwig in HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, Jonathan Whitton follows up his award-winning 2007 NYC solo-concert debut in collaboration with indie-musician/guitarist Aaron Jones. Whitton has been seen recently in NYC productions of EVEN FOR ONE NIGHT (Dixon Place), RAZIA'S SHADOW (Joe's Pub), THE DISNEY DIARIES (dir. Michele Pawk, Laurie Beechman), SEPARATE: BATTLE SONGS OF YOUTH (Ars Nova), & THE YELLOW WOOD (dir. Brian Yorkey, New World Stages). Regionally, he has starred in productions of THE LAST FIVE YEARS, HEDWIG, CABARET, & SANTALAND DIARIES. He has been seen on stage at such NYC venues as Joe's Pub, 54 Below, Ars Nova, Highline Ballroom, The Laurie Beechman Theatre, and Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. NYU Musical Theatre Writing Program Graduate Aaron Jones serves as Music Director. Jones is a composer/performer based out of Brooklyn whose experimental musical, OF HONEY BEES AND THE BREVITY OF SUCH THINGS, ran at 17 Frost Theatre of the Arts in Brooklyn. Upon completion of his concept album DEAR DEAR FRIEND, he is currently at work on a new puppet/dance show, BOSEY JOE IS DEAD AGAIN.
