MW: FROM SINATRA TO COHEN: SEXY SONGS OF THE LOUNGE ERA

MW: FROM SINATRA TO COHEN: SEXY SONGS OF THE LOUNGE ERA

THE CABARET AT THE COLUMBIA CLUB (121 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN - 317-275-1169) presents Todd Murray in "From Sinatra to Cohen: Sexy Songs of the Lounge Era" on Friday & Saturday, November 2nd & 3rd at 8:00 pm. Before the age of electrified amplification, songs had to be sung loudly in order to be heard. The introduction of the microphone led to a new, intimate style of performing which became known as crooning. Todd Murray follows the history of crooning, beginning in the 1920's through today. With lush popular ballads, swing, Latin beat, and lyricists such as Berlin, Porter, Lerner/Lowe, Hal David, and Leonard Cohen, Murray demonstrates that all popular music has its roots in crooning. There is a $35-$45-$55 cover plus a $12 food/drink minimum.

NYS: THE PATRIOTIC AND POLITICAL SONGS OF GERSHWIN

NYS: THE PATRIOTIC AND POLITICAL SONGS OF GERSHWIN

Broadway veteran singer/actor Bill Carmichael returns to The MAINSTAGE AT FORT SALEM THEATER (11 East Broadway, Salem, NY - 518-854-9200) on Saturday, November 3rd at 8:00 pm. This year, for his annual musical visit, he is piggy-backing on the presidential election as he sings patriotic, political, and protest songs penned by George and Ira Gershwin. Carmichael began his career in the original New York cast of the ever-changing satirical revue, Forbidden Broadway, and went on to appear on the Great White Way in Cats, Peter Pan, Ragtime, Les Miserables, and the original cast of the Abba hit, Mamma Mia! Creating cabarets since 2009 with Fort Salem's artistic director, Jay Kerr, the pair has reprised the Salem shows at the Vergennes (VT) Opera House to sell-out crowds. This past summer, Carmichael co-starred on Fort Salem's Mainstage in Significant Others. Carmichael emphasizes that the Fort Salem show will be light and non-partisan in nature. Interspersed among the patriotic and political, songs will include "Our Love Is Here to Stay," "Embraceable You," "Nice Work If You Can Get It," and "A Foggy Day." The $25 ticket includes a $6 credit toward coffee and dessert catered by Norene and Fred's of Salem. Because seating is limited, reservations are strongly suggested.

NYC: FEINSTEIN'S PRESENTS TAMARA TUNIE "YES, I SING!"

NYC: FEINSTEIN'S PRESENTS TAMARA TUNIE "YES, I SING!"

FEINSTEIN'S at the Regency Hotel(540 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-339-4095) will present a special concert engagement of television and film star Tamara Tunie Tuesday through Saturday, October 30th through November 3rd at 8:00 pm. The show will feature Musical Direction by Mike Renzi, acclaimed for his work with Peggy Lee, Lena Horne, Mel Torme, Blossom Dearie and more. Her engagement - which coincides with the release of her new film, Flight, opposite Denzel Washington - will be run for one week only. After she participated in a well-received concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center in May, performing the music of Cy Colman opposite such luminaries as James Naughton and Michele Lee, Tamara was inspired to return to singing. Tamara has been singing her entire life, including early appearances at Upstairs at Greenstreet and Steve McGraw's early in her career, before film and TV took over. After making it big in movies and TV and then bringing home a Tony Award as a producer for Spring Awakening on Broadway, many people forgot or never knew that her roots were in musical theatre. She is often asked, "Do you sing?" She is answering that question with this evening of re -imagined show tunes and jazz standards entitled "Yes, I Sing!". Perhaps best known as "Medical Examiner Melinda Warner" on NBC's long-running top-rated series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," Ms. Tunie has had many other memorable roles in film and television, including "Jackie Heath" opposite Charlize Theron and Al Pacino in The Devil's Advocate, "Leslie Christos" opposite Al Pacino in City Hall, "Sheila" opposite Samuel L. Jackson in The Caveman's Valentine (for which she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award), "Jessica Griffin" in the hugely popular CBS Daytime Drama "As The World Turns," and the villainous "Alberta Green" on Season 1 of the hit series, "24." There is a $30-$50 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
