Ralph Lampkin, Jr. and Lampkin Music Group are excited to bring cabaret to the newly renovated STAGE 773 CABARET ROOM(1225 West Belmont Street, Chicago, IL - 773-327-5252) in a series of Saturday night concerts, concluding with a New Year's Eve performance featuring Chicago favorite Hollis Resnik with musical director Doug Peck. The series continues on Saturday, October 8th at 8:00 pm, featuring Chicago singer/ actor/ director, Stephen Rader as he "Sings a Song He Wants Too". Portions of ticket sales will be donated to three non-profit - the Gay and Lesbian Hall of FamePride Films and Plays , and Season of Concern . There is an $18 cover.

Acclaimed jazz vocalist-songwriter Laura Hull will set sail on her next monthly jazz cruise series aboard Spirit Cruises of New Jersey on Saturday, October 8th. The Spirit of New Jersey departs from Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken and cruises around New York Harbor from 8:00 to 11:00 pm for dinner and jazz. A native of New York City, Ms. Hull spent her formative years singing at the resorts of upstate New York's fabled Catskill Mountains. In her early career, she worked as a session and jingle singer and showcased her singing at clubs in and around New York City. After a 24-year hiatus from music to pursue a business career, she returned to live performance in 2004 and has been described as first class vocalist with an infectious sense of swing, phrasing and style. Her music is drawn from an extensive repertoire of American popular songs, jazz standards, obscure gems, and her original compositions. This is the show where we spotlight cabaret CDs released in 2011 that are perfect for Holiday giving. More details will be published in the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE NEWSLETTERS and on the website in the weeks to come.

We are not taking any reservations until October 15th. All reservations must be made online via the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website - no reservations will be taken by the club. Current members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE will be able to place reservations on Saturday, October 15th - anyone will be able to place reservations after Monday, October 17th.

If you released a cabaret/jazz CD since November 1, 2010 please email me atstuhamstra@svhamstra.com with full information. No need to send a copy of the CD unless you wish to. The Chicago Cabaret Professionals (http://chicagocabaret.org/ ) 13th Anniversary Gala "You and the Night and the Music" will be presented on Sunday, October 16th at THE PARK WEST (322 West Armitage, Chicago, IL - 773-929-5959). Broadway's Teri Ralston will be appearing at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Thursday, October 6th at 9:00 pm. Having originated the roles of "Jenny" in Company and "Mrs. Nordstrom" in A Little Night Music, Miss Ralston's association with Stephen Sondheim has continued over the years, either directing or performing in 11 of his works. She directed and performed in Side-By-Side-By-Sondheim with Peggy Lee, and played "Sally" in three productions of Follies, including one she directed featuring Harvey Evans, Kurt Peterson, Julie Wilson, Betty Garrett, and John Raitt. She performed as a soloist with Michael Feinstein and The Los Angeles Philharmonic at The Hollywood Bowl, and is featured on five original cast albums. FEINSTEIN'S at the Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-339-4095 - ) presents the return engagement of Tony Award winning singer and actress Betty Buckley in her new show "Ah Men! The Boys Of Broadway" Tuesdays through Saturdays, October 4th through 29th. Performances are Tuesday through Thursday at 8:30 pm, and 8:00 & 10:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Buckley will perform men's songs from Broadway shows that she has always wanted to sing, including numbers from Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, Pippin, Mame and La Cage Aux Folles. She will be joined by Christian Jacob on piano, Peter Barshay on bass and Anthony Pinciotti on drums. Having triumphed these past two years in her Oak Room celebrations of Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart, beautiful and beguiling Karen Akers returns to THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-419-9331 - ) from September 27th through October 29th with her new show "Live, Laugh, Love - Akers Sings Sondheim". Karen sets her sights on the leading musical theater composer-lyricist of the last half century. Among her selections from the Stephen Sondheim Songbook are "More" (Dick Tracy), "Live, Laugh, Love" (Follies), "Send in the Clowns" (A Little Night Music), "Broadway Baby" (Follies), "You Could Drive a Person Crazy (Company), "The Story of Lucy & Jessie" (Follies) and "Moments in the Woods" (Into the Woods). Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ), every Tuesday night in October at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

L.A.: ANDREWS SISTERS TRIBUTE COMES TO JOSLYN CENTER

On Sunday, October 2nd at 2:00 pm, "Swing Dames" joins the long list of concerts presented by Les Michaels and Life Is A Cabaret at THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER THEATRE (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731). The show pays tribute to the legendary Andrews Sisters and features songs, costumes, and stories from their career and the state of our Nation during their popularity, especially during WWII. Rather than take on the roles of Patty, Maxine, and Lavern, "Swing Dames" created their own group made up of 'Penny', played by Megan Johnson Briones, 'Marlene', played by Erin Bennett, and 'Lorraine', played by Gail Bianchi. The show's storyline includes songs made famous by The Andrews Sisters along with many favorites from the era by other artists as well.
