CABARET IN NYC: GEORGE BRAITH QUARTET AT BIRDLAND - EARLY SHOW 6 PM
The George Braith Quartet will perform atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Thursday, May 30th at 6:00 pm. Legendary Saxophonist George Braith is a New York saxophonist who made three distinctive recordings for Blue Note from 1963 to 1964, "Two Souls in One" with guitarist Grant Green, followed by "Soul Stream" and "Extensions." Around 1961 Braith developed a technique for playing two horns - a soprano sax and straight alto sax - at the same time, which became his signature. Braith went on to lead a varied and eclectic career in California, New York and Europe, at one point running his own NYC club, Musart, from 1966 to 1972, collaborating with sax legends John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins and even playing his two-sax "Braithophone" in the 1984 Robin Williams film "Moscow on the Hudson." There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
