CHI: LAURA FREEMAN IN IT'S MY PARTY AT DAVENPORT'S

CHI: LAURA FREEMAN IN IT'S MY PARTY AT DAVENPORT'S

Laura Freeman celebrates the sounds of the 60s in her show "It's My Party" atDAVENPORT'S (1383 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL - 773-278-1830) on Saturdays, May 19th & 26th at 8:00 pm. Martha and The Vandellas in 1964 and Connie Francis, The Top Female Vocalist of The 50s ... those are the bookends. When we talk about music from the 1960s, most people think of Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, but that is really just part of the story! That small window of about 8 years changed music forever with the birth of a genre most historians don't even acknowledge: the birth of Bubble Gum Pop. Suddenly the air waves were jumping with the sound of women ... no ... girls, teenage girls and their teenage girl problems. Call for cover/minimum information.

NYC: BRASSY, BAWDY, AND JUST A BIT NAUGHTY: BURLESQUE TO BROADWAY

Experience the art of the tease as critically acclaimed Quinn Lemley stars in her new hit touring production, "Burlesque to Broadway" at Brooklyn's historic MILLENNIUM THEATER (1029 Brighton Beach Avenue, Brooklyn, NY - 718-615-1500) on Friday & Saturday, May 18th & 19th, at 8:00 pm. Along with sexy sidekicks Natalie Loftin Bell and Stacey Harris - and a smoking 10-piece big band - Lemley takes audiences on a journey from the early days of underground burlesque clubs to mainstream acceptance by the Broadway establishment and beyond. This unique theatrical concert, directed by Tony Award winner Joseph Hardy, honors rule-breaking icons such as Sally Rand, Gypsy Rose Lee, and Mae West, and celebrates their ascent as they danced on the edge of the law, laid bare the double standards of the era, and fueled a movement that would influence divas for the next century. Despite its cultural relevance, this show is no history lesson. Song-and-dance fun fill the theater as the cast belts out unforgettable hits such as 'Hey Big Spender,' 'Let Me Entertain You,' and 'She's A Lady' while they dance to Merete Muenter's provocative bump-and-grind choreography. The costumes of Wendall Goings add to the experience, glittering with sequins and flowing with fans and feathers. The two-show limited engagement is also something of a tease. Immediately after, Lemley and her girls head back out on the road to continue their successful international tour.Tickets are $35-$75.

NYC: LORINDA LISITZA BRINGS "TRIUMPHANT BABY!" BACK TO THE MET - LAST 2 CHANCES TO CATCH THIS FANTASTIC SHOW!!

Lorinda Lisitza brings back her nightclub act, "Triumphant Baby! "Triumphant Baby!" developed with the director Brad Oscar, premiered in the Metropolitan Room in December 2006, winning both Nightlife and Bistro Awards, and going on to play a limited theatrical run at the York Theatre. SF: PETER ASHER: "A MUSICAL MEMOIR OF THE 60S AND BEYOND"

SF: PETER ASHER: "A MUSICAL MEMOIR OF THE 60S AND BEYOND"

"Peter Asher: A Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond" will be presented at RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189) Wednesday & Thursday, May 16th & 17th at 8:00 pm; Friday & Saturday, May 18th & 19th at 9:00 pm; and Sunday, May 20th at 7:00 pm. The show brings a multimedia experience to the stage, hosted by the two-time Grammy winner for Producer of the Year. Peter Asher moved effortlessly from his role with Peter & Gordon to Music Executive with the Beatles' Apple Records, then famously to Producer and Manager, handling the careers of James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt and a host of others. Books abound, documentaries with half truths (and worse) are all too common, but, now, finally, Mr. Asher tells first hand his tales from the eye of the cultural hurricane in this intimate evening. "Memoir" includes film footage and photos from Peter's considerable personal archive, brought to life with a storyteller's gift, transporting audiences back to the heart of 60s popular culture. Icons such as Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Marianne Faithful, Yoko Ono, Carole King, James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt are among the cast of characters in this narrative - along (of course) with the greatly missed Gordon Waller. The evening is filled with the music of Peter & Gordon, including "I Go to Pieces", "True Love Ways", and "Lady Godiva". The songs given to Peter & Gordon by Paul McCartney are also front and center: "Woman", "I Don't Want to See You Again", "Nobody I Know", and "World Without Love", all of which were US Top 40 hits. Peter = backed by a four piece band - presents these timeless classics along with other old favourites from that golden era. There is a $40-$45 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: LORINDA LISITZA BRINGS "TRIUMPHANT BABY!" BACK TO THE MET

Lorinda Lisitza brings back her nightclub act, "Triumphant Baby! The Songs of Iconis and Maddock," to the THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) with performances on Tuesday, May 8th; Friday, May 11th; Tuesday, May 15th; and Wednesday, May 16th - all at 7:00 pm; plus Saturday, May 19th at 9:30 pm and Sunday, May 20th at 7:00 pm. Mixing dreams of Hollywood glamour with stark snapshots of America gone bust (and bananas), Lisitza delivers a fiery gamut of songs from the minds of hillbillies, housewives, murderesses, doomed startlets and other assorted tuneful lunatics. With her precocious songwriting collaborators, Joe Iconis and Robert Maddock, the MAC, Bistro and Nightlife Award-winning singer stirs up a mythological stew that is as sweet as it is corrosive. "Triumphant Baby!" developed with the director Brad Oscar, premiered in the Metropolitan Room in December 2006, winning both Nightlife and Bistro Awards, and going on to play a limited theatrical run at the York Theatre. This is the show's first major (and non-elusive) cabaret run. Joining Lisitza are Iconis (the music director) on piano, Mike Pettry on guitar, and Matt Wigton on bass. Liz Lark Brown and Tanya Holt do back-up vocals. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
